I told myself I'd wait for the demo for Q4. But I've kinda got the itch that needs to be scratched now that I've been coming back here. Arrrrggghhh...

I guess my GuildWars time is just about over.

I might be getting a $500 video card.

what's your current video hardware?

and what's your cpu?

q4 MP is much more cpu-bound than gpu-bound, depending on your setup you might be better off with a new chip than a new card...

athlon xp 2000+
512mb ram
ATI Radeon 9000 pro 128mb

If I get an upgrade, it will probably be something like this:

A64 3000+
1gig ram
SLi mobo
BFG 7800 GT OC

cause I want to keep the complete system around $1000 CAD, so I'll upgrade the chip later for a dual core, hopefully they'll get cheaper.

amd 3000
radeonx800xl
512 ram
and i cant get a steady 60fps with a tweaked cfg... will buying more ram solve my problem? if not, i am taking the game back coz im not paying even more for an even better gfxcard that could run the game smoothly

The minimum is 512 Ram, but doom3 wasn't so much a ram hog. Not sure if quake4 is, so I doubt you will get a big boost in performance, but you might get few more fps.

You should of went with the GeForce 6 Series instead, a 6800 GT would of been good.

ATI is planning to release 5.11, it will have tweaks that will allow it to function better in OpenGL especially with AA.

Try 800x600 and medium settings, you might be able to pull off 60fps.

i get 60fps in small rooms, with no action, when the shooting starts it drops to 30 - 40... i want 60 fps all the time and if buying more ram wont do it, im fucking taking the game back coz i have a nice average pc and play on all low settings... so wtf if i cant get a steady fps on that. most of the average consumers will be able to play this normal in a year, coz i dont belive everyone is buying new setups just for this game
