Should I bother with Q4

...if I've never played Q1/Q2 (at least as far as the SP is concerned)? 
Sure, it's an awesome single player game.

Quake 4 has its own story line. Any player can jump in so theres no real need to wonder what went before. Unless you are an id nut.

They pretty much tell you everything that happened in q2 anyway (not much as far as story line goes).
I've noted that the squad based stuff and the "briefing levels" where you spend the whole level listening to ppl talk and/or finding out about your next mission is very Raven eg. elite force 1/2 inspired. If you liked those games you'll like this.

Also, if you're worried about not knowing, the Special DVD edition comes with Quake2. You can play that first, and you'll have the entire story up to the beginning of Q4.
