For those of you who get a constant 60 fps:

For those of you who get a constant 60 fps in any scenario (ie a very busy SP map, or a very busy MP map), could you please list your CPU/RAM/Gfx card?

Is it possible that there are people that exist who get a constant 60 FPS no matter whats going on on-screen?!

The game is VERY cpu demanding.. not so much about graphic and memory.

aye, high quality @ 1024. tried ultra quality, was pretty much the same, but it stalled like every 2 minutes for a split second. the diff between ultra and high is barely noticable anyways so i just run it at high

Sure, because I personally think you are wrong. I ahve an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 2x512 RAM with a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 meg. Now I can barely get 60 FPS with 800x600 Low. I mean you cannot say my CPU is shit, but you can say that about my graphics card. I am sure if I upgraded my graphics card I could get 85 fps on high at 1024x768.

Oh you guys. The game's been out for like 2 days or something and we're already having penis measuring contests. Chill the fuck out and play the stupid game and stop worrying about some dumbass number in the top right corner.

I don't think that CPU & RAM is everything ...
My system is a Pentium 4 HT 3.00 GHz (800 FSB) on a Gigabyte 8KNXP Rev. 1.0 with 1042 GB Ram (Mixed up from DDR 300 to 400) and two seperate harddrives (one 20 GB for my system and one 80 GB for appz & games) and my GPU is a ATI Radeon 9600 XT.
I think this is not a bad system but my average FPS are 30-44. 64 in a empty Arena and 15-20 in a arena with minimum of 4 players ... Config is at Medium and 1024x768

I'm plowing my way through SP now, where I don't care as much about FPS as getting as much eye candy as possible.

Runs satisfactorily enough for me, although that means dipping in the lower twenties and even upper teens at 'busy scenarios'.

Still quite proud of the performance my 3 year old rog is giving me.

1024x786 on high with everything maxed except antialiasing

I have exactly the same setup and yours is the CPU I plan to upgrade to. My old AMD XP 2500+ just doesnt cut it. Do you get any slowdown at all?

I created this thread purely to get an understand of what sort of setup runs Quake 4 smoothly, and how diverse these setups can be. This is nothing to do with penis measuring or the like, it's a simple way to find out what Quake 4 requires on a relatively broad scale.

The "dumbass number" is actually quite important in regards to the games enjoyability. When you are playing a game, are you have a smooth screen with smooth graphics, it feels a lot more enjoyable than when you are sturggling to see whats going on in busy scenarios because your FPS has dropped below 10.

Of course the FPS does not make a player, but it certainly helps a player and hir or her enjoyment.

The fact is, theres a chance that it drops to say 55 fps in some places, or on a busy MP/SP map, and I'd like to know if thats the case.

"The game runs fine" doesn't tell me if theres even small FPS drops in certain places, which is what I was wanting to know.

Did you just come down in the last shower? :)

The bottom line is, this game is shit to play without a minimum of 50 to 60 fps. In the occasional area where I get that ( when I'm by myself in a certain area of a map) everything is smooth. The moment it dips below that, it's all jerky. My XP2000+ and 9800pro doesn't cut it at all as I'm mostly getting late teens to 20's on low to medium settings with lower res.

I have 768 mb ram. As a short term fix, if I increased my ram to 1gb or even more, would I see any framerate increase or would it be negligible?

hes hitting 60fps pretty much mosat of the time but it does have a heart attack every once in a while, but im blaming that on his whoop ass 512 ram

o yer hes also running a 6600GT

I know I dont get 60 fps (more like 35 - 45 FPS at 1280x1024 everything high quality / no AA), but it's hardly noticible the difference once you get past 28 FPS.

AMD Athelon XP 2100+
1 GB RAM (PC2700)
ATI Raedon X800 Pro (256 MB)

I'm not planning on upgrading anytime soon - dont have a job (being a full time student at DeVry takes quite the flexibility as some days I have class at 9 AM, others at 7 AM, and they let out anytime between 11 AM and 1 PM). Plus, I'm going into Senior Project this upcoming term starting Nov. 1st.

I'm kinda wary about the whole CPU-Demanding thing...

I was planning on getting a Geforce 6800 soon, and adding another 512 stick of pc2700 ram...

Will my Athlon XP 2600+ be holding me back to where I won't be able to get constant 60fps @ High 1024x768 with eyecandy and 8x AA?

As far as the high detail and AA..... DEFINATLY. :/

You'd likely need a whole system overhaul to mantain 60 at that level... :icon1:
