Now that a few days have passed..
At first, the multiplayer seemed very overwhelming, and I was getting my ass handed to me on the regular. Now that 've had a few days to get used to the pacing, and get all of my settings adjusted for a decent frame rate, I 'get it', and I think it's pretty excellent. CTF and Arena CTF in particular (with the exception of the 'tarded space maps), are helluva fun. My overall view on the multiplayer aspect of the game has changed a bit as i've warmed up to it, and I think they've got a winner with the fps crowd. Anyone else think differently after playing for a few days?
Well I've been concentrating on Tourney and FFA play (I don't play that much in one sitting and I've only really had 3 or 4 sittings total).
The Fragging Yard level is a nice idea but falls flat in tourney. The FFA version works for 3-6 players, but the Tourney version suffers from too many links (you can get anywhere to anywhere pretty much instantly), and too few escape routes (so many places where you can cover all exits at once,
Aside from that... the weapon models would benefit from being more distinct, but all the weapons work very well.
The portal/projectile feature is OK, but suffers without the old Quake-3 seethrough portals. At the moment it's a gimmick with only very limited use, but with proper viewable portals it would be more useful.
Ramp jumping is useless without the kind of air-control used in Q1/promode, double jump doesn't seem to exist for me... I heard it was in but it just flat doesn't work if it is.
Hitsounds would benefit from being meatier/louder and the rocket launcher sounds too weak.
I really want mouse acceleration.
That's about it. I really like the new editions (tourney scoreboard/multi arena is very nice) but wish it didn't come at the expense of important features which were present in earlier games (Mouse accel, portals)

Hmm, I just played a few games with some guy who had a ninja system ( 6800GT and athlon 64) getting 100 frames per second he said with a tweaked config. Last game the score was 30-25 to him, with one other player in the DM on 7. I was quite amazed I got 25 frags on my shitty rig against his system. I'm getting used to it but low framerates ( 15 to 30) are making everything jerky and it's still hard to really see the enemy clearly, they blend too much with the backgrounds. I do like the feel of the MP, strafeing is very nice and I like the weapons. I am kind of addicted I must admit.
Maybe not. I'm running a athlon 64 3000, Geforce 6800GT and a gig of DDR400 and even though its capped at 60fps, I see above 60 fps regularly if there are few people in the server and i'm not shooting alot. When you drawfps and take screenshots you can see it goes over 60 quite often.Foo wrote:Then he was bullshitting because the FPS is capped at 60

Yeah, we are all curious about that !!!Psyche911 wrote:Bueller:
Your other thread says you have a way of playing without the CD in? Mind informing me? If it abides by the rules, of course.
I know there are no-CD cracks, but I don't think they work online. And yes, I own it.

I don't want to get in trouble, especially seeing how I paid 60 some dollars for the dvd collectors edition, but there is a no-cd and yes it works fine online. The only reason I have it is so that I can safe keep my dvd in a box and not run my dvd burner constantly. Dan, I pm'd u the link. the rest of you all can just googler and u will find.dan1407 wrote:Yeah, we are all curious about that !!!Psyche911 wrote:Bueller:
