Sorry, but we're trying to keep the number of sticky threads to a minimum. Feel free to keep posting your requests here and it'll just bounce up and down on the index like the screenshots thread.

Not to be a dick or anything, but doom3world.org has a load of info on making maps for both Doom 3 and Quake 4. I'm just saying...there's no reason we can't ask questions about d3/q4 editing here, but if it's about the very basics of making a map, why reinvent the wheel here, when you can go to
http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/index.php and find pretty much everything you need to know to get started?
It would be cool to see some screenshots of peoples Q4 maps, tho...

what is quake4 autocaulk and what does it do
shift control +a

It automaticly caulks unseen faces on selected brushies. If its like doom3 then you dont need to worry too much about it as unseen faces are removed anyway at run time.

so how the hell do you autocaulk
select brushes and press shift control +a ..i can't get autocaulk "a feature that is built into the q4editor"
to work.
i'm cleaning up someone elses map and i'm looking for a quick way to fix shoddy construction

After you select the brushwork, you need to click back on the main window befor ctrl+shift+a. You should get a message that says "caulking..." in the console, then how many faces were caulked.
