I have come to the conclusion that Q4

.. maps suck!

It's not ment as a rant, i love Q4.. its awsome and everything i wanted (minus a few small settings/options) but the maps just dont have that WOW! feel, or the feel that this is "your" map.. you know it outside in and know every move of your opponent like i felt with pro-q3dm6.
I even dare to go as far to say that Painkiller even have better mp maps in layout and feel/atmospher.
After a week online (8-10 hours per day) both dm,ctf and mostly tourney.. i still havent found a map that i feel is "my map".. it took me tops a day to get that feel for pro-q3dm6.

Dont know about you guys.. but i think they are dull, sure they look sweet as hell.. but they arent good in layout and pickup placements.
And things wont be better when you cant even join a server if you miss the tiniest file that the server uses.. just like with DOOM3, that will fuck up the custom maps and admins using them.
If you got 7 of the maps on your favourite server, but not the bright skins and the weapon sound for (insert weapon) your fucked, and how in gawds name do you know what ya need to download in order to get on that server??

I hope Raven fixes this ASAP and that they release 3-4 more Q3 remade maps in a later patch... because frankly.. im already tired of 'em all.

I've always thought it was a little too much to expect from developers to provide well-balanced, great flowing MP maps, especially when so much work went into the SP game.

Once the community has a little time to get some maps out, then we'll really see the good ones. Q4 has well-playable maps, but not the time-tested and battle-honed maps that only a constantly gaming large community can provide.

We'll see better soon. ;)

Q3DM6 wasn't known as the classic it's now two weeks after the release of Q3 either.

as said, be patient and wait till good custom maps and a decent competitive mod comes out. As eraser said, q3dm6 item placement was kinda shit at first, same problem maps some q4 maps have now.

i do feel my tactical gameplay improves slowly but steadily at some maps.

I honestly think q4dm3 ("The Lost Fleet") has some real potential to become a new classic

I find them a bit bland too but I've decided to give it some time.

Any word on a ZTN3DM1 replica coming out?

That's certainly my pick of the current 1v1 maps with potential. The item layout is suitable although the size of the level is a little too small to allow the down player any chance of regaining control.

But overall for 1v1 I think the FFA version of Fragging Yard has equal if not better potential than that level, although the problems of over-connected areas and items would need to be worked out.
