quake 4 multiplayer

Post by [FTF]Pyro »

pffffffft......

Green and orange.... pffffffft

Longest day/yard/dm17/whatever its called now looked better on dreamcast than it does in the "new version"

Shotgun is worthless, plasma rifle is too.

totally knew it wouldnt be Q3 or anything like it at all and after a weeks worth of playing...... I'm right!

Sooner someone gets a quake 3 mod going the better. And somebody better implement some new character skins cause the generic ones suck some serious ass and are about as inspiring as watching my father take a crap on the toilet

About as much use as this forum

I've been hearing these kind of things since the days of Q1, and then from Q1 to QW, QW to Q2, Q2 to Q3. Every subsequent game in the Quake series differed from the previous one to the point that many players either stuck to the "classics" or made retro-mods. Not that there's anything wrong with that...guess you can't please everybody.

The cosmic ballet, goes on. :icon26:

I'm going to work on something that plays a little more like q3. I also want to come up with some creative new twists to the old gametypes.

I demand a patch to make Quake 4 JUST LIKE Q3!

But wait, coming from Q2, I was never truly happy with Q3. Therefore,, I demand a Patch to make Q3 JUST LIKE Q2!!!
But I guess Q2 was never true to Q1 so we’d have to patch Q2 also...

So why the fuck don't we just fucking patch Q4 to be JUST LIKE Q1?!

Yeah I find the Shotgun actually a tad more powerful than the Q3 one. Is that just me or is there truth in that?

Could be that the spread is a bit less.

Shotgun is very powerful, and plasma is just fine if you learn how to use it.

the shotgun does 110 dmg. It's the most powerful weapon in the game besides the dark matter gun.

shotgun is ok. i find the hyperblaster/nailgun to be useless though - not sure which of the two i find better.

and they really couldve made a better spaceskybox. red green and yellow dots looks really cheap. the TA spaceskybox was the win

Hyperblaster is a bit like the Q3 plasmagun I reckon. The nailgun I like. Quite powerful for up close.

the plasmagun had bigger balls ( :icon32: ). the hyperblaster feels like you have to be very accurate

lol no shit. The "Marine Team" and "Strogg Team" scoreboard notations might have been a clue :olo: :p

I think the hyperblaster is too much similar to the machine gun and is never used. :)

The thing about Q4... I was never expecting a revamped Q3 so in that sense I'm not disappointed, but hell, the game looks like the developers didn't even ask real players what we wanted or how it should play, etc. Why, as someone stated, orange and green for the teams? The green players are especially hard to see on green maps. They should have just retained blue and red teams.

What's more annoying too is that half the time, I don't know what weapon I'm picking up or what weapons I have... may be I've been too spoiled by 3W.

Weapon balance in Quake 4 is dang near perfect - the super shot gun is a great weapon to have, especially at close range, and the nailgun and plasma gun are both unique and effective for the right situation. Quake 4 is not Quake 3 is not Quake 2 is not Quake 1. Let Quake 4 be Quake 4. It has its own virtues and shortcomings.

I agree with you on the Orange and Green, not because I want it to be like past games, but because of visibility. I would not have a problem with the current color scheme so long as they were bright, vibrant, and easy to delineate player models.

yeah, the shotty simply kicks ass. and i agree, the weap balance really is friggin' awesome. doesn't matter what weap youre holding or what the approaching enemy is holding - you have a fighting chance to take him down.

But is that balance, or making everything the same?

Boring != Balance.

The RL/RG/LG trinity should be the top tier of weapons.
The SG/NG/HB should be your finishers
The MG should just be what you spawn with and should be bottom of the barrel unless your trying to take down someone at range with critical low Hit points.

I think balance implies a wide range of weapon function, ability, and power. In a close battle, a SSG is probably more powerful and useful than a LG. At medium range, a LG may be better than a RG. At long range, a RG would be preferably to an RL. All of the weapons have their own unique functionality, pros, and cons.

If one or two weapons tend to dominate the game, the weapons become unbalanced to the dominant ones - the Rocket Launcher for example dominated Doom 3. However, in Quake 4, I don't feel as vulnerable without a Rocket Launcher or as needy to have one.

spot on with your comments there.
I've always felt that in UT the RL and to a lesser extend, the flak cannon dominated the entire game. In pretty much all of the Quake games, every weapon has their own unique purpose. Selecting the right "tool" for the right situation is half the way to victory.

well, cept for the nailgun and plasmagun :)
the nailgun serves no purpose other than to please the fans with an "oldskool weapon".
IMO that is

No, the nailgun isn't quite like the Hyperblaster. It does more damage, which makes it great for medium range. But it has spinup time, and isn't as accurate, which is what balances it out.
