Sound pack planned for female Q4 PPMs

I've got a buddy who's a very clever sound engineer, and we're just finding out the specifications for a character sound set before we reccord a pack for female PPMs for Q4 MP.

I'd like to hear from anyone who thinks they might have use for this pack (for non-profit, free PPMs only, all rights reserved, yadda, yadda) and would like me to make it available to them when it's done, please. Post here or email me - chiq at chiq dot net.

I will distribute it to Q4 sites who want to serve it for me, but this way I can actually communicate with anyone who might happen to want the use of it, or offer input. If it goes well we may do more, so as to suit more female character types. Right now we're just going to do a generic set though.

I would recommend looking at this thread.

And then get in contact with Newborn who appears to be heading the Creative Commons project.

(can't find an Newborn's email - might be easiest to register on esreality and send him a private message - I have sent him a pm of your post as well.).

Just read the article and all of the comments. A very exciting idea that could accelerate mod developments when it becomes reality. :)

That's a great idea, but arqon sure comes off as an arrogant bastard.

That's okay though. It's not about the people. It's about the resources and community.

You probably already know about this, but Hellchick used to run a website about female voice acting

So what's new? It's clear that there will be no one in charge once the project is started up. It seems a pretty solid idea and i don't mind arQon expressing it in words that are not to be mistaken.

Yes, I knew about that, thanks. I hadn't seen all the tutorials though, so it wasn't for nothing :)

Well not to be mistaken is fine, but is there really any good purpose in saying things like "OSP and CPMA were the gold standard for Q3 not just because Rhea and I were better developers or put more time into our work than most people"?

Also, has he released everything he did for Q3 to be used by the public at large?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea, and I think it's good to have someone as well-known as arqon to be promoting it. But why would he want to open such a noble idea up to an immediate pissing contest to those who might not agree with him or be agreeable to him?
He's the one who sounds like he's trying to make it personal, and even outright attacking lesser experienced mod-makers. Like he thinks he's John Carmack or something.

Yea, it shouldn't be about the people. :icon14:

There's a bit of a discussion about that article going on here as well:
http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12833

arQon has always been quite arrogant about himself and his own work. While he often does have good points to make, he brings them in a completely off-beat manner. I think he was actually being pretty mild in this article.
