Hello, as your forum moderator, I just wanted to say just how much I hate all of you. After just a couple of days of not checking this forum, you guys make a big mess in the "Q4 Tutorial Request" thread and then while frolicking about in your own self-centered disregard of any sense of order, happily ask me to clean it all up for you. Well, thanks a bunch guys. I have to manually delete each post, separate them and then post them back into their correct threads. You have made me very angry and you shall all tremble with my terrible retribution. Don't worry, it's coming soon, so you don't have long to wait for your miserable lives to end.

Your one and only truly evil forum overlord,

-Obsidian.

P.S. In case you haven't noticed, I'm very mad at all of you!

Feel free to post your Q4 editor bugs here. Stuff from that other thread:
unitool wrote:Why do I keep losing my work? Yesterday I lost about 4 hours of work, and just now, I almost lost the whole map - I opened it up and all that was left was a few entities! Thank jeebus for autosave at just the right time. The map file was 2KB vs the autosave size of 615KB.

The reason I had closed and reopened was because my brushes were no longer resizing - just moving, even tho the "no resize" button was not engaged.

Is there something special I need to know about this editor? It won't take long for me to decide to make a CoD2 map instead of Q4 if I have to restart my map every day.

I have also found that when i'm working on a map that every now and then the editor stops recognizing saves, even though it keeps saying it's auto-saving and appearing to notice when I clicked the save icon.

What I found worked to ensure the map saves was to constantly rename the save file - annoying I know, but it worked. (for example, renaming my saved file from "map1a.map" to "map1b.map").
unitool wrote:I have a problem where nothing I do seems to be saved after I bsp and run the map. Any changes after that are not always visible. I have to close and reopen the editor, which seems weird, but I'm glad I noticed it. Not really sure what's going on, as you can see. Maybe that what is causing your problems?

Q: How come when I compile multiple times in the editor and spawnserver in F2 window some of my work dissapears?
A: It's a known bug. To test map in F2 window, use 'devmap' command instead of spawnserver. You can also adjust the speed by typing 'pm_speed 320', which will feel just like in MP. If you lost some of your work and autosave file is outdated, then you can look for .tmp file and rename it to .map, which might have your latest work in it.

I find that saving my map to different names every time helps, like 1, then 2, then 3, then 4... Its a pain in the arse but it WORKS.

Another bug is that the windows KEEP FUCKING RESETTING POSITONS.

Another bug is after i compile the level, i get fuck loads of weird flickering where the wireframe would be on some brush work, and its retarded...

Another thing that pisses me off is its lack of particle viewer... WTF???

PROBLEM
I got a FUBAR'd LWO map object the other day. It showed up in editor, in render mode and in game but when in game the effect associated with it wasn't working and the model didn't appear to be lit correctly. The origin point was clear of brushwork (so it wasn't buried in anything) but for some reason the model couldn't be selected, either by mouse or by drawing a brush around it and 'select inside'.

SOLUTION
Fixed it by saving a version of the map and deleting the entity reference directly from the map file.

Hmmn. Maybe try making a specific editor shortcut (with editor, r_fullscreen 0, and r_brightness 1) that drops you right into the editor? Also, make sure that your editor.cfg isn't read-only, and that it's getting updated when you resize/reposition windows and leave the editor? I've never had this problem...

Is it on patches or actual brushwork? I assume it's not standard t-junction errors (sparklies)? Are you using any weird light shaders? Does it happen in render preview or only in-game? Screenie?
Kat wrote:h0sed model
I've had this happen when I've accidentally hit Alt-K (I think? I don't have the editor/game handy...) instead of Ctrl-K when trying to connect two entities one of them being a model. It screws up models royally--you'll find them to be unselectable and/or popped to 0,0,0 and you just have to delete/remake.
