According to gamespy, its FFA then tourney
BTW, more ppl are playing q3 than q4.. will q4 fade out fairly quickly? It really doesnt seem to be being embraced by the gaming community - or even the quake community especially.

It's probably peoples systems that are putting them off. And lots of players who have very high spec systems are also complaining about framerate drop. Anyway, now that the initial hype is dying down, I for one can safely say that I'm more interested in playing Q3. I prefer so much more about it. For one thing, I like the way the text looks on screen. Yes, sounds petty but still. I like the way when you watch a duel it seems more excting to see COOLLER V ZERO4! in big text. I find the Q4 way of showing text is quite subdued and dull. I prefer the colours in Q3, Q4 seems drab. Of course the maps too, we all know they suck cock. I prefer the speed in Q3 ( watching cooller v redemz demo the other night was like 'wow!' compared to any Q4 demo I've seen).
And I like my keels taunt.
And other stuff.
edit: but I'll still play both games and hope that Q4, when/if properly modded, will be good enough to forget about Q3.

For me instagib(RG)-CTF is king when it comes to online FPS.
It perfectly combines purpose and skill.

i'm liking q4 more than q3. i see more potential in q4 but as it stands now it doesnt seem like people are willing to suffer on up through the hard part of the games life. it's a shame so many people today instantly write something off simply because they don't take the time to learn something new. it sickens me how people want instant gratification but are unwilling to offer anything even remotely constructive in return.

You're kidding, right? People are putting tons of hours into this thing and critiqueing it effectively in great numbers.

I second that notion.
And, the sad part is that CS:Source isn't broken very much except for a few bugs that can effect some matches. Mostly it's just a cesspool of whinging with a
very small dash of intelligent "this would make it better" feedback.

InstaUnlagged / X-Battle with IU added.
Nothing beats learning how to railjump with accuracy and learning how to kill rail jumpers with accuracy

i see a lot of tourney servers online. sucks because while its fun, you cant hop abour if youre the only one on the server. this kinda results in a lot of empty servers cause people dont wanna wait till someone else arrives

apply that last statement to the developer. The last quake game came out SIX YEARS AGO. In six years we get a pretty game with almost no content. I personally would have been completely happy to wait 7 years for a game with the content of say.... unreal tournament to mention one?
You do realize that this comparison is a completely worthless one, don't you? The only reason UT2k4 had anywhere near the amount of content it did is because in recycled ALL of the content of the previous version, UT2k3. Additionally, UT2k4 is a MP only game. Expecting that amount of MP content on a game which is SP/MP is unreasonable.
Admittedly, it would be cool.....but it's a completely unrealistic expectation.

Actually, recycling was a good idea IMO. OTOH, I did feel quite betrayed by the fact that I purchased UT2k3, it was crap, it was put in a better wrapper instead of being fixed, and I ended up paying for the same content again.
Regardless of that aspect of how they did it, why re-invent the wheel every time a new version of a game comes out?
There were plenty of good & popular maps in Quake1/2/3 that would have been welcomed in the release version of Quake4.
Take counter-strike for instance. If old maps weren't recycled for the Source version, a lot more people wouldn't bother with it. Instead, Valve is recycling maps (albeit slowly) AND adding new ones. This is a much better transition to help keep the core fanbase and add new players.
Also, UTk4 has a single player tournament mode that is not only good, it also enables newbies to learn maps, mods, weapons, and how to work well with a team much more quickly than they would most likely otherwise do. (At first anyway, there isn't any good substitution for humans vs humans).
/I'm not trying to start a game vs game war. I do like the Quake series & Quake-based games more than any other, but, OTOH, I will not ignore the fact that other games often implement features in a better way.

I play mainly CTF
DM I find boring, I suck at 1v1...and TDM I just havent spent any time on.
CTF is great, I look forward to seeing this gametype grow with custom maps and competition mods.

TDM and CTF have been what ive played.. DM is to spammy, and TDM on some maps sucks..

I've always loved CTF. It's just too bad you have to be in a clan to see any kind of teamwork (covering the flag carrier, what a strange suggestion, I know).
So I end up playing DM or TDM more often. It's frustrating too because there's so many noobs in this game. They'll end up trying to kill you because they don't realize it's TDM. Or they'll keep falling out into space and end up with -5 points.

(and dont get me wrong, it hurt to even mention that game but at least they put time into real content)
You seem to forget that there's a 10 - 15 hour SP game on that disc as well with 6 times the detail of UT2k4

This could be solved by server settings putting people into spec when they join. Then the players choose which team to play on. At least, they would have no excuses. If they can't figure out how to choose a team, then that is probably for the best.

As I recall, you could send in Disc 1 of your UT2003 set for a partial refund of the cost. Maybe that was US-only. I didn't bother, anyway.

In my experience with our Q4 server? I would say FFA and Team DM are the most popular. If the server is set on CTF or Arena CTF, it eventually gets voted to FFA or Team DM.

For info, I play mostly tourney, but usually end up voting into FFA mode because:
1. Floating around waiting for an opponent is really dumb
2. The voting menu wont let you to certain maps (The Fragging Yard original version) in tourney mode. Which is stupid, since it's a better 1v1 map than the 1v1 version
