Wondering if anyone's figured out how to do it; I'd love to play through it again with good graphics.

With good graphics? r_singlelight doesn't give you good graphics that I'm aware of it just gives a vertex light sort of effect, though it would give you a high steady framerate if that's what you mean by good graphics?
Have you tried net_allowcheats first? Dunno if that would work in SP, worth a try I guess.

r_singlelight looks great if you up the brightness (not gamma); and use:
image_downsize 0
image_downsizespecular 0
image_downsizebump 0
image_ignorehighquality 0
image_usecompression 0.
Ultra quality and 1024x768, Vsync, 16xAA, and particles on (shadows off since you can't see them anyway)

Looks like you still have image_lodbias set to 0, which makes the crosshairs blurry. I'd set it to -1 or -2 (best).

speaking of nasty ass shit in single player...am i set up wrong, or is there a reason all explosions/smokes/etc look like 256 color mode? i mean, they still looked kinda good, but that bugged me throughout the whole game.

That's what I got after installing the Ati Catalyst 4.10a drivers (the beta release). I reverted to the latest official ones and the ugly filtering on transparent sprites was gone.

interesting. i'm, using the lasted nvidia drivers (6800) .. but since i upgraded too em i'm having wierd problems with my fog in ffxi also...different problems, but still. didn't even occur to me it was a driver issue, just thought it was a game setup thing, lol.
