Address Book

I got a friend that has an HP machine and was running windows ME. He went into his folders on ME and copied his address book. It is named:

backup address book - march 2004.wab

He wrote it to a cd to save and then he had windows 2000 installed. He then put the cd in the drive and opened Outlook Express and clicked on import, address book etc. but it said it couldn't import it.

Does it have to be ME [98] to recognize the file?

I was there and tried importing and it says error occurreed during import process and could not be completed.

When I double click on it to open it [the .wab file] it says,"the address book has been locked by another application. Please close the other application and try again.

What other app could be locking it and how do I know which one it is??

this too, hit me like a ton of.....heavy things.

about your friend's OTHER problem, i have a hunch that he needs to create that exact same identity that he used to export the .wab file.

*edit* gah ya bastard!

open up task manager, perhaps you have to instances of outlook running?

It is marked as READ-ONLY on the CD since it is most likely burned on a CD-R. The R stands for READ ONLY since the disk cannot be overwritten.

Copy the file to the hard drive, right click and go to properties, uncheck "Read Only", click Apply, then Ok. Done.

Windows probably needs to lock the file or may just need write or modify permissions to the file for the import utility to work.
