Does anyone know the exact location of the supper hiden windows folders, that you can not see whe you enable "see all hidden folders" setting. Note: I am looking for the ones in Win XP.

The ones directly located in "C:\somethingsomething"

You know the ones you can acess, only if you type in their direct location in the run box.

Now if you have Win 9x, then there are alo hiden files, not even visible in dos root. Here.

Its the only option.

And the whole fuck/suck I used in the massage is from that listed website I found. Not really reflecting my personal view. I just thought it might be funny.

They aren't "super-hidden" files, they can be easily found by looking for index.dat using XP's Search feature. If you are actually worried about the police kicking in your door for the stuff you've been viewing or if your spouse can parse hex strings then you have something to worry about. Since thats probably not the case its safe to put away your tinfoil hat since this information is only partially correct and from the days of IE 5.x

These files are simply part of the system logging which takes place on a Windows box and can be removed quite easily by apps that erase histories, like Window Washer. What exactly do you think happens when you connect to a questionable web server on the net? That information is logged, possibly parsed and exported so they can track traffic patterns and sources, and definitely stored as part of an archive on tape or disk for years. The internet (or any network) isn't a "private" place, live with it.

As for not having an alternative to Windows you could try MacOSX, Solaris, or any of the dozens of free Linux distros.

Well, I was not realy woried about privacy and sutch, since I use Debian for the other stuff.

I just wanted to get to a hidden windows folder, that had an icon of Quake 1 in it, for some completly unknown reason.

ANd you cant find that folder by searching for index.dat because it is unsearchable.

No, deamn it!

Like I say previously, let it be clear: I am in no way shiting my pants about privacy, or spyware or any other mallware.

I mearly wanted to get the exact location of a folder on C:\ drive, that I have acessed before, but now I forgot the name of. And the only way to get to this folder is by knowing its name. In it, it has a icon of Quake 1 and 2, why? Windows Easter Egg? Including other usles files.

I want to get to this folder again. Just beacuse, I admit it, I miss it?

It was something along the lines of: C:\sys~1 or something like that, I belive a lot longer name. A cool folder to know, ans show to some of your pals.
