My backslash key

Hmm, I changed a say bind today to go onto my backslash key (right under my left pinky), the one with both \ and | on it. I bound it in the console in both vq3 and osp, and it even shows in my q3configs on both osp and baseq3. But it no worky. :tear:
I have no idea why. I think I got that key working in Q4 though.
Any idea?

what? on my keyboard that is underneath f11 - how can your left pinky be anywhere even near that region?

in console, type bind \ and hit enter

it'll echo what it's binded to.

Yes, my keyboard has some keys in a different position. My backslash key is to the left of 'Z', to the right of left shift, and below 'A'. My left Ctrl key is also not right at the end because of a reduntant 'Fn' key, but I like it there, I've gotten used to it.

Amazing how much crap there is between the keys that you don't really notice :p

Stilll doesn't work though julios, I already did that bind.

If you bound it in the console... I never do that, cause most cfg's have an /unbindall in it? It's also possible that the bind is listed twice in the cfg, and I think it takes the last one in the cfg. Make sure the bind is in the cfg, and it's not mentioned twice.

no i meant actually type that in console and hit enter

like...

if i hit "bind a" and then hit enter it'll say

"a is binded to moveleft" or something

that's what i meant by it echoing what it's binded to.

so when you type that, what does it echo

does it say \ is not bound?

nope, everything is bound fine, and everything is saved in the config in the same way all other binds have been saved when I've done a console bind.

Here's a screenshot of my \ bind which shows it's bound, but it doesn't actually show up on screen or make the beep sound when I press it after I close the console. Just does nothing.

might be that the backslash key isn't one that works - dunno

i tried loading up quake to test it, but my vid card is too slow to even let quake load up properly :(

praps if someone else here could test

IIRC, the \ key does not support binding in q3.

I don't know if it has something to do with DRuM's weird keyboard, but the backslash is bindable (and works) for me.

So DRuM, if you bind it in-game (for example /bind \ "say =)"), close the console, then press the backslash key, nothing happens?

I tried making a nick with the characters "/\//_" in it but Q3 doesn't like backspaces in nicknames. :icon7:

Binding \ isn't a problem here though. Does Q3 recognize the key when you try to bind it to something in the controls menu?

I've fixed ze problemo!! The config saved my bind as:

bind \ "say ^4shit,^3lol :)"

That didn't work. Then I noticed that when pressing the backslash key, it was changing to gauntlet. I'd already bound gauntlet to R. As it happens, weapon 1 ( gauntlet) was bound to 0x00 ( dunno how that happened) in my baseq3 and osp configs and also in my osp autoexec. I can't remember how it turned out that the backslash key saves itself in the config as both 0x00 and also \, but it certainly doesn't work as \ .
So I changed the 0x00 bind to this:

bind 0x00 "say ^4shit,^3lol :)"

and now the backslash key works.

As it happens, now that I realise the gauntlet was on backslash, I've put gauntlet back to backslash and the say bind to R.
