Performance - Upgrade CPU or GPU?

OK, Ill start off with my specs:-

Pentium 4 Socket 775 3.2ghz HT Enabled CPU
Gigabyte 6600GT Turbo Force (it means overclocked ;) )
Gigabyte Mobo 8151P Duo Pro.

Well, the game is very playable at low settings - not nessacarily with a uber hax tweaked cfg, just some minor tweaks like disable shadows and some stuff, mostly cut out of other peoples cfgs. It gets good fps, with noone in a server on q4dm11v1, when I look over the edge on the first laucher pad to the side (towards rail gun) it drops to about 50 fps, but the q4dm6 map someone made which is 17 pages long, which is 20fps.

What do you think I should do? I heard about it being CPU Sensitive, and it limits fps, like in UT2K4. Personally, I think its the 6600GT holding my FPS back. Whats your opionion?

I hope your not upgrading because of an unfinished beta map that has no optimization..

my opinion is you should stop whining about nothing and go frag ;)

Yeah I dont think your hitting any bottleneck either way, looking across the map on fragging yard everyone takes a hit I believe, its just the poor optimization done by Raven, load up the same map with the FPS light tweaks and you should stay at 60...

And the dm6 map is unfinished, definitly not something you should use as a measure of your systems performance. If your upgrading anyway I think only at top of the line AMD64 would give you any boost in the CPU so I would probably hit up the gfx card... :icon28:

First of all, you're using the Q3DM6 remake as a justification, which shows you didn't read the thread. Read the thread properly.

Second, your system is fine. Upgrading those components now would be completely wasting money. Save it and consider it again in 6 months time.

Thoirddddd, moving this to T&T for more relevant discussion ->

Well said Foo. The 6600 will do just fine for now, so wait for a couple of months to see if new drivers and a Q4 point release does anything for your performance before deciding on an upgrade path.

Yeah, if anything the GPU doesnt quite compliment that CPU for really high end gaming, but that system is perfectly fine.
