I was thinking about putting the most popular custom maps used on servers into one zip file and hosting it for people to download so they dont have to keep searching for a certain map to join a server running custom maps.
1: Im just wondering if there is any intrest in this.
2: I would like to know from the custom map makers if this is an OK thing to do.
All I would like to do is just make it easier for people to get the maps they need, as alot of servers are running custom maps.
Any thought/input would be appreciated..

Can I suggest putting up a web page listing all the maps, with a direct download link to each? Map packs don't work too well unless they're comprehensively tied together (installer, all maps similar quality, etc) and in preference I'd give players the choice to download the ones they need.

You could add the maps into quake4world.com in the maps category if you like, that would be a good way of getting them all together in the same place, and it'll get high exposure :)

I don't think it's very clever to put everything in one zip file. If you have enough space you could host a collection in a zip file and all maps separately. I hate map packs that contain maps that i already have.

Btw it wouldn't really be a 'map pack', because that would be one pk4 with multiple maps in it. If you intend to make a real map pack with custom maps in it, that wouldn't work on a server that has a separate map that's in that pack too.

I made a rip pack from all of the 3wave maps with only the maps that are interesting to play with instaunlagged (instagib with railjumps), which reduced ~130 MB to ~26 MB of space needed on a server. The only reason why it couldn't be used was that people with the original 3W packs wouldn't be able to join the server.

I think that eventually there will be mod approved maps like CPMA and RA3 had, those are the only ones that get really broad use arent they?

Q4Max is going to hopefully get this all started...
