skype is ok for 2 player communication. it even works for 4 players - though you might occasionally encounter 5 minute delays
good for a bit of fun though: i was playing some 4on4 matches of warcraft 3 with friends of mine and it was hilarious to see one of them asking for support in attacks that occured 5 minutes ago
- we still won though, making it even funnier

haven't tested it yet - but it seems that fps games are a lot more relying on smooth running sound; remember the q3 console commands that could get you like 5 additional fps if tweaked properly?
