Another question about Xbox 360
Another question about Xbox 360
Those of you that know about such things...Microshaft sure didn't make very many 360s for the first run (at least it seems like that) considering that pretty much every one, everywhere, is already sold before they arrive.
I've heard rumors of it being anywhere up to January or February before the next batch comes around. Why in the hell is that? Is the production process really that damn slow?
In terms of business strategy, what's their deal here?

Microsoft's Peter Moore has taken an opportunity to publically refute speculation that his company is deliberately restricting supplies of its Xbox 360 console, due to launch in North America on Tuesday and in the rest of the world shortly afterwards.
Talking to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Moore commented: "I've seen all of the conspiracy theories. Somewhere in Roswell, New Mexico, we have a hangar where we're stockpiling it, creating false shortages. No." He went on to indicate that the company is "...trying to get as many units to retail as we possibly can."
Some recent comments by retailers such as Game Crazy, which released a financial statement revealing that its "initial allocation of the new Xbox 360 consoles will be below original expectations... we believe this issue to be industry-wide", have engendered further concern with both sellers and prospective buyers of the console, with Microsoft's latest estimates calling for 2.75 million to 3 million Xbox 360 worldwide unit sales in the first 90 days of sales, but spread out over the multiple launch territories.
Some observers have pointed out that, due to the non-staggered nature of the Xbox 360 launch, availability of the console in each individual territory may still appear very limited to consumers, with many U.S. stores now noting that their second Xbox 360 shipment will arrive after Christmas, with their first one already sold out.
Nonetheless, Moore defended this multi-territory approach, explaining to the Post-Intelligencer: "You can challenge the decision, but we made a decision a long time ago that we're going to ship this holiday in the three major regions of the world. I think when the dust settles, it will be proven to be the right thing, and it will become the default way that you launch a video-game console in our industry."

you know what else sucks? the Core version is 0% backwardscompatible. so for the love of god, dont get the core version. hopefully theyll simply disband the thing after a few months and devs can start working on games that use the HD :icon14:

I just had a chance to play on one for 3 hours. Oh.My.God. I got to play madden, fifa, need for speed and tiger woods. while they weren't all huge leaps above the current generation, they were all quite impressive. the option to plug in an ipod or other music source and play any tunes from that is particularly nice.
on a side note, some of the visual goodies they've thrown in are really, really stunning

Just because they wanted more money FFS... Nobody, REPEAT NOBODY wants the dumb ass core version. Just get rid of the SKU altogether and release the HD as stantard, even if its a cut down 8gig one. At least then games can make use of it.
A cut down 8GB one isn't going to save much money more than a 20GB one. Probably none, because it would have to be custom made. I don't think anyone makes a S-ATA HD smaller than 20GB or so.o'dium wrote:Fuckin-A son.MKJ wrote:you know what else sucks? the Core version is 0% backwardscompatible. so for the love of god, dont get the core version. hopefully theyll simply disband the thing after a few months and devs can start working on games that use the HD :icon14:
