If it's a Tbird, you're out of luck. Time for an upgrade.

yea, SSE support was not put into place untill the XP series..
if this is a spare box that you just want to run Q4 on, Then take a look at the Socket A Sempron's, Watchout though AMD pulled Socket A's allmost compleatly now
if its a SLOT A, Then sir, you are really SOL :/

I'm afraid you'll need at least an XP2500+ and 1024 MB ram and something like a Radeon 9700 or GF FX5900 or faster.
My Athlon64 3200+ with 1024 MB and a 9800 Pro runs at 60 FPS in quite a number of maps at high detail 1024x786 (muzzle flash disabled) with frame drops here and there. With lightdetaillevel 4 or 5 i get a constant 60 at the Q4 FPS maps. I'm thinking about getting an X800 or 6600 GT though to stabilize the FPS.
Just as a reference.

There is a command in the game, which uses 'generic simd instruction set' or something, but that's a fallback for sse-enabled processors IF there having trouble with normal see, not to enable non-sse processors to work with the game.

Your system is way below minimum spec.

ya dude why would you think you can play a 2005 game on a 2000 rig? That thing is seriously outdated.

Exactly.

I think people underestimate tbirds too much
I've completed Doom3, HL2 and Farcry on here at high detail without a framerate problem
damn devs forcing us to use newer stuff

i dont underestamte the things at all, i have a 730 running at 1.33 beside me as we speak ( i just retired it from a spare box yesterday ) and it does hold its own,
But simply put, games and etc are taking more and mroe out of cpu's to have rich content, so thus.. its hard to stay with older hardware.
anyway, i will see if i can find you a workaround, allthough i KNOW you are not going to like the performance.

Technology advances...its the basis of the hardware and software industries. If it didn't we'd all still be playing pong
.
There is no way I can think of that you finished Doom3 at high detail on that rig at any more than 10fps.

Perhaps you'd have fewer PC problems if you stopped wacking off to pictures of gargoyles.

You can add this to the exe shortcut: +set com_forceGenericSIMD 1
Or change this value in the quake4config.cfg, but since you don't have one because the game hasn't had the chance to load, download a config here:
http://quake4.filefront.com/file/Quake_ ... File;48965
And good luck (this won't work, but good luck anyway

).

You will need to upgrade in order to resolve the issue. This is a pretty basic concept, you can't expect to use the same hardware and always be able to play the latest games.
