Texture theme?

I've been modeling some stuff for some more textures but I don't want to do the same style as I have the last few sets.
I'm leening towards a particular theme but since I'm happier when people use my textures then only just making them I thought I'd "ask the people"...
So if you can take a few seconds and take this poll please. I'll make it a 7 day poll.
Thanks in advance.

I'd love to see a more outlandish theme from yourself. I think your artistic style would lend itself well to trying something to fit with a cel-shaded bright design. Or something really crazy like a toy-town texture set
What's the theme your leaning towards currently? Most of your Q3 sets were tech, and the gothic stuff you did do never really added up to complete sets, so perhaps a full gothic set?
Either way: woot!

I remember when everyone was hating on the gothic textures in maps but they are still my favorite, brings back doom memories. Pentagrams, devil heads, and such are where its at! :icon4:

I second that more gothic textures as Quake4 already ships with many teck textures

q4 has so many base/industrial textures that I dont think we need any more atm.. gothic, or realism.. or something original.

F1 gothic. Quake just isn't Quake without a gothic theme.

I voted for gothic, but generallly I would like to use/see somethic more organic in "q4". Mayan, Chinese, Hindu or even Egyptian theme made with your quality mark would be awesome.
Khmm, actually don't make Chinese set - I've got plan to make such map and if you'd release a texture set the level would not be original, an my textures would suck

Thirded. :icon25: Perhaps some basic, clean high quality concrete/rock/brick textures wouldn't hurt either.

Mayan/Aztec and Hindu are excellent suggestions - lots of intricate little carvings that would make for some richly detailed normal maps, and not something that's been done many times in Quake like Gothic or Egyptian.

i always have been searching for a Royal texture set with lots of purple and gold.
like some rich kings palace.

evil, if you remember.. actually years ago, you were at a similar point you are now, considering a theme for a new texture pack and had mentioned doing something along the lines of
Giger's work.. It may have just been 'ok' for Q3, but with the new engine, bump maps and spec, I think it would look amazing if done right

Gogogogogothic!
You have the talent and experience to manage developing a highquality gothictheme. I think gothic textures/maps are still the most difficult ones, but most eyecatching and beautiful as well ..
Keep us posted with WIP shots

I'm surprised/happy to this many gothic votes so far.
Techx, Yeah, that would be cool, but with my limited free time It would take me forever to get something like that to work well.
Shallow, I love Mayan/Aztec stuff...we'll see.
Foo, I'm leaning towards more of a gothic theme. I'm thinking of some q3 inspired stuff mixed in with others.
Here's 2 (resized) examples of inspired q3's gothic textures I've been playing around with.
A \gothic_floor's 'largerblock3b' texture and a \gothic_block 'blocks11b'.
It's the same type of color and style.
Kind of what I did in e8; there's a few Team Arena inspired textures mixed in with original stuff.
I'm undecided if redoing some q3 gothic stuff is worth it though, it's fun for me to try to bring some of the cooler ones to q4 but I'm worried people would want new stuff and not use them.

Hmm. you're giving me an idea to try and set up a silver + green gothic theme for the level I'm working on.
Foggy green depths, low saturation, filtered light streaming through windows... all that jazz.

No you are not doing a silver/green thing in Q4, not! I was supposed to do that

Your lucky day. I'm still mapping for Q3.

Inspired by Giger sounds awfully
awfully cool. Maybe mixed with some Gothic type textures, would make it possible to bring an organic/alien/messy atmosphere like in Q3DM4.
I don't know if anyone ever tried to make a map with those alien corridors in it...
