For Q4 you need openal for sound to work: http://www.openal.org/

Try installing the drivers manually, not via the .exe

Use Winrar to extract the contents of the .exe into a folder. Then go into device manager and go to properties of the sound card, and do 'update driver' and point to the folder you extracted the files too.

EDIT: But clean the system once again of the sound drivers before doing this. By installing manually you won't get the crappy stuff like the extra sound blaster/creative apps installed.

If you got an OEM version of the sound card then the drivers found at creative.com might be a bit stubborn... also I know this is no brainer but don't use cd drivers and shit.

Is the card oem or not? (Dell etc. ship those kinds). They sometimes modify the setup file so it recognizes their card, but it usually breaks access to official cards, like one manufactured by creative.

But I'm guessing you do have a built-by creative model... so, if all else fails, a format c: might cure what ails ya. :paranoid:

Ohh something worth mentioning, theres a good chance that openal shiat don't work with all cards, it should play nicely with audigy brands and up, but prolly not with sb live cards. Could definately be why it's grayed out in q4.

There is also talk that its just broken on Q4s end of things. More then a few people with Audigy cards, myself included, cant get the thing to accept we have cards that support it.

Have you downloaded the latest Beta drivers from Creative's support site? Try that.
