I remember Duke was slightly more popular than Quake when they first came out. Until the novelty factor of Duke wore off. Lol.

I started out with Quake 1 on a P75. What's interesting to note is even at the very start I didn't give a toss about the Singleplayer. I jumped straight in for the multiplayer despite not having an internet connection.
Spent like 2 years playing deathmatch levels off magazine CDs with reaperbots. That was the fucking shit.
I could see the potential of multiplayer all the way back then, despite being a PC newb and never having owned my own console.

i actually played the Q1 sp demo when it came out, on a p133, and absolutely loved it, but then it seemed that life got in the way.

Heh, I started out with a 386 33mhz.
