Laptop died and need a new one for work.
Anyone in on a good deal or special going on in the US ? Christmas makes things kinda tight for me, this is a bad time to have a key tool for work shit out.

what have you looked into so far and what kind of budget are you looking to stick with?
if you hold out long enough dell always seems to have special deals on their stuff somewhat regularly so keep an eye on those.

cheap as possible ofcourse. i guess 1200 or less. its mainly work so i dont need it to smoke. just a good solid laptop. i been checking hp and bestbuy and comp usa and every other place i can think of. Cant find anything thats powerful enough for cheap enough, well no special deals anyway, no sales.
I wouldnt mind paying 1600ish for a laptop if it wasnt christmas, maybe my credit has chilled enough to get me a bestbuy card or something and finance a good laptop. I really extended myself this year heh.

damn, that's a real good price. did you order it or got it local? on it now? how about a quick review.

yea i cant believe it was as comp usa of all places. I always held them in regard of being the most pricey of them all. I got it at a local store, though i had to drive a lil out of my way to get to a store that had it in stock. Yes i was typing on it up there and i am now also.
Anyway, review eh, ill try.
Its sweet laptop so far. I havent had a lot of time using it, infact i just got home and left it charging all day so it would get a good first charge. Its bigger then i thought it would be, my toshiba a60 was a lil short on the hand rest and would end up cutting into you after a while and i hated that. This one the keys sit more back to im resting more of my wrists on it and the rounded edges are making it much more comfortable. The keys are a lil stiffer then im used to so the touch typeing is a lil weird, i hit the key or feel like it and it doesnt type, but thats cause my toshiba was all broke in i think and you could be light as a feather on the keys. Ill adjust.
So far its really fast. 64 bit amd 3500+ with 1gb ddr ram and a 100gb hd, cant ask for more then that on a laptop, i mean my server only has a 80 gb primary so im stoked man. Games and movies will abound. Speaking of which, the screen is sweet, its a nice wide screen, though not a full one cause of the laptop size i needed, they do make the wider ones with the keypad on the side, but i needed it to fit in my back pack. Its got tha shiney reflective screen all the new ones have, so it looks real sharp. So sharp i think im going to keep the foam that comes with it and put it in between the lid and keys so it doesnt scratch my my toshia did.
Over all it looks pretty durable too, the case is stiff and strong, the lid is considerably more rigid so im sure it isnt going to put pressure dents on the lcd.
The only thing i dont like is that its got winXP home which even that i didnt mind till i realized i cant connect to my domain. But nothing mininova cant solve or i might actualy buy a OEM winxp pro from work if its not too bad. Hmm i wonder if i can use the key from my toshiba. Guess we will see.
So to sum it up. I know im stoked over getting a new toy, but i think this is truly i good laptop. the power it packs is pretty respectable and its also pushing ati's highest end GPU from what my research tells me. Unless it shits out on me in a month im going to say its a solid buy. Ill try to get some benchmarks up if your really interest. Im kinda curious how it does. Il be installing WoW and NFS and maybe even quake4. Let you know how that runs too.

yeah, that's probably a more robust lappy, but it's featureless compared to that HP.
*oh oh, not quite fixed yet, Raw. this post was in response to Duffman's.

I would suggest dropping a few extra bucks and purchasing an IBM Thinkpad. These babies can take all kinds of beatings and outlive their counterparts. Best laptops in my opinion.

Really? I've had a lot of experience with the T41 and found it to be a bit cheap in construction.

i suppose for people that don't give a crap about their company laptop or their personal one, that it would be a wise choice.

In the last two places I have worked in, the IBM series of laptops were the ones that could survive drops, abuse, and carelessness. All others had shorter life spans.

Fair enough. I guess the hinged lids among other design tweaks do lend themselves to hardiness. The screen was a nice piece of work too.
