He's the guy that founded the Crips, and was convicted in 1979 of four murders, by an all-white jury. Governor Terminator is pondering whether or not to commute his sentence to life without parole. Now, normally I say let 'em get the needle. But, there's a few things that stink in this case, such as the people that testified against him having gotten incentives to do so, and the fact that the jury was white. Hardly a trial by one's peers. Given the fact that this guy has reformed and done a fair bit of good for the community, I say spare him.
Thoughts?

I'm opposed to the death penalty, so there really isn't much for me to chew over on this one.

he can't get a fair trial unless the jury's all black? gang members? murderers?
i'm not saying he shouldn't be commuted, just that i won't be suprised if he gets his ticket punched.

Indeed, but on what grounds? Questionable utility? Risk of executing an innocent person too great?

confused at this statement.
did anyone (here or in another place) claim that it would only be fair unless they were ALL black?
i think they'd consider it fair if there was a balance.

Not at all, but if I was black, I'd be pissed if there weren't at least some black people on the jury.

I haven't found any pro-death penalty arguments that are convincing.

what would you do if you were in jail with him and he told you he was gonna kill you when when he had the chance or feltlike it:
and if you say youd grab a shank and try killing him first how realistic are you being? Look at the size and probable raw strengh on him. The classic grab him by the neck and stab his gut I dont think would work that well as hed manhandle you, overpower the knife and stab you with it.

how many years ago was he sentenced to death, and why has it taken so long to get round to killing him?
fucking cruel, making a person wait years to die.

I'm against his execution on the basis that (to my knowledge) the crimes he was convicted for were based around more circumstantial evidence than factual evidence. As such, his execution bypasses the purpose of our system's involvement of " beyond a reasonable doubt". Regardless, had the system been used properly, or had been applied to other death-worthy crimes he admitted to having done, he would have been fried as well, and I'm all for it.

do you honestly think this guy is innocent of being a killer though?
I know almost nothing about the case. Though few seem to doubt his guilt, even his supporters from what I gather.

What the hell does that have to do with anything we're discussing? Yes, he's big, and yes, he could kill you if he wanted to, totally irrelevant.

They say he has redeemed himself by speaking out against violence and writing children's books on the evils of gang life. During his 24 years at San Quentin, the Crips street gang founder turned his life around to the point that a Swiss legislator, college professors and others repeatedly submitted his name for Nobel peace and literature prizes.
Anyone can be nominated for a nobel peace prize, that means absolutely squat.
So what if he's turned his life around, how bout the 4 peoples lives he took? Did they get a chance to even live their lives? No.
Hook em up. Eye for an eye.. need more prison space anyway.

So you fell that there's no possibility that he didn't get a fair trial? That the good that he's done doesn't outweigh the harm? Do you believe in redemption?
