After making Dm3, John Romero could crawl over his dead mother to fuck his sister and he'd still be OK in my eyes.

Sorry MKJ, I was simply speaking out of my ass. I'm indifferent about Romero and his checkered history.

game matching is something that is done in battle.net: you hit the play button and get machted against an opponent of equal strenght.

this is something, 3d shooters are in need of btw!

the client/server architecture is just not up to date anymore.

Those talking shit about John Romero, read the book "Masters of Doom" and you'll gain a lot of respect for the guy.

keep meaning to check that out.

Product Description:
“To my taste, the greatest American myth of cosmogenesis features the maladjusted, antisocial, genius teenage boy who, in the insular laboratory of his own bedroom, invents the universe from scratch. Masters of Doom is a particularly inspired rendition. Dave Kushner chronicles the saga of video game virtuosi Carmack and Romero with terrific brio. This is a page-turning, mythopoeic cyber-soap opera about two glamorous geek geniuses—and it should be read while scarfing down pepperoni pizza and swilling Diet Coke, with Queens of the Stone Age cranked up all the way.” —Mark Leyner, author of I Smell Esther Williams

Thank you Eraser, I was just going to say the same thing. Don't talk smack about someone who was RESPONSIBLE for the first person shooter as we know it. If it were up to John Carmack, Wolf 3D wouldn't have had secret compartments, and not nearly as much fun. The overall feel of the original Doom was ALL Romero. Other mappers were trying ideas out and Romero told them to step aside. He threw together a level and that WAS the look and feel of Doom. John Romereo IS THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR DEATHMATCH!! He asked Carmack, "Would it be possible to connect two computers together and have two people play one another?" He even came up with the name "deathmatch". The man is a revolutionary genius, and yeah, he's cocky, so what. What have YOU done these days to revolutionize the world of gaming as we know it?

Heh, I realise the way things are described in the book are a bit over-romanticized but it's just very entertaining to read about how Carmack and Romero were each other's opposites but worked together so well.

Too bad their opposing personalities tore them away from each other. I wonder what kind of stuff id Software would be making if Romero was still in the team.

Do you like Quake 3? Well then by your definition you'd be a fag because without Romero Quake 3 never would have been.

Why do you post here freakloin? You hate everything and everyone here. I just don't get you.
