Hey guys, just registered. Wondering if anyone knows how to fix flickering problems in games. Like when I play Quake4, my eyes see a constant flicker. It’s quite annoying, I think I got the recent ati drivers but I’m not sure how to check which version they are.

could you discribe the flickering?
by the sounds of it at the moment, it sounds like V-synk is off.

I'm talking about the refresh rate, sorry forgot the correct term. I think it's at 60 in game and my desktop is at 100.

Doom 3 and Quake 4 will both exhibit flickering if, as Amidy said, Vsync is turned off in your advanced graphics options in the game. In earlier games vsync caused too much of a performance hit to bother with but in the last couple of id games it really is worth it.

In your graphics card properties (on the desktop Right click

Properties

Settings Tab

Advanced

Tab with graphics card name)
There should be settings in there to override refresh rates at certain resolutions. If you run a game in 800x600 resolution, for example, then override the 800x600 refresh rate to be as high as your monitor can handle.

I've always played with out Vsync, I find that Vsync removes the tearing or whatever you call it. You see it when moving, but it never bothers me.
What I was talking about was refresh rate, I think it's how many times the monitor refreshes the image? The problem I have is that my 9600 diplays the correct refresh rate on the desktop but when I play games it goes back to 60. I clearly notice it and my monitor menu tells me the refresh rate.
Anyways I think I'm using 5.12 ati drivers, and ever since the 5.10 or 5.11 this started happening.
I think there is no longer an option to set desired refresh rate. I have tried under Displays/Attribute but it doesn't work. Any ideas?
