PoP: Two Thrones

Anyone else playing this? I picked it up after not bothering with Warrior Within on the basis that it's got a lousy reputation, and I'm kind of in two minds. On the plus side, it's got some absolutely superb platforming segments which hit the absolute sweet spot of tricky-but-you-can-manage-it-first-time-if-you're-good-enough, the control scheme for the platforming side of things is very forgiving and really responds to what you want to do, not the exact frame of animation you happened to be in at the time. The platforming for the Prince is perfect, the platforming for the Dark Prince is spectacular and is just different enough to be fun. Plus it's in widescreen. On the minus side, the combat is a chore, the speed kills are a bit too reactions-centric and take too long to learn, and there's the ultimate sin of button-mashing segments (ptooie). Plus the graphics lack the spark and creativity of Sands of Time. Oh, and the music isn't as good.
Still a good laugh, though. About a 7/10.

I haven't got any of the new PoP games since sands of time, which i really enjoyed. I have been meaning to get the newer games but never seem to get round to it...
I'll probably get Two Thrones on the basis that Sands of Time was quite a lot of fun.

im at the end boss now. very nice game indeed. i just wish the dark prince was more overpowering, right now its more of a hassle than anything to be him

I had high hopes, but just didn't get into it like I did Sands of Time.
6/10

Yeah, doesn't have the same fairy tale atmosphere; and too many gimmicks. But the platforming is still great.

just beat it. while the endboss has to be the most frustrating boss in gaming history, i liked the ending. especially since the missus beat sands of time just mere moments before, so it tied in nicely :icon32:

Not as bad as those axe/sword guys. I nearly broke the disc.

Sands of time is on there, but not two thrones.
BTW a version of two thrones - or, even better, sands of time - in which they sorted the character models so they're not still limited by what the ps2 can handle would be freaking awesome.
p.s. it's even more fun on the second playthrough.

I played/beat all of them in order of release but my favorite was warrior within the plot was just good and fun. However I liked them all more than any tomb raider which the game reminds me of.The thing about sands of times' fame is because it was the first clone of tomb raider with twists.Much like the first fps you play competitively is the one you will always remember and compare things to.

SPEAKING OF TOMB RAIDER...
I REALLY think the new "legend" looks and sounds fantastic. For once, I cant wait for it. I just hope its not Angel of Darkness all over again.

Sands of time was mostly influenced by the original PoP games - the reason I enjoyed it so much was that in the same way that Mario64 felt like mario in 3d, SoT felt like PoP in 3d.

The first and the second back in the day were quite cool i thought. This was when Quake 2 was THE shit, you know, amazing graphics and as good as it got, so it was high up there. Made a nice change of pace.

At the time, they were fantastic graphicly. Dont tell me people played games because of features at that stage. People moved from Quake 1 to Quake 2 not because it was a better "game" but because it looked better and was built for graphics.

no, that would be only you
see i hated tomb raider, because the clipping was horrible and the whole setting just didnt appeal to me
i couldnt care less if they used 2 or 3 textures for a rock.
