Why is it so hard to join servers?

This is really annoying. I'm tryig to check out new maps but I'm having SOOOO many problems joining a half-decent server. Some of the CAL servers I can join in, others I can't. Why can't they just fuc^#%$ fix the damn autodownload???!?! (Or have they and I'm behind?)

I'm wanting to get better at this game (come from a diff community) but getting rejected by 1 out of 2 servers is putting me off. I have q4max (all versions) yet it still tells me every once in a while to go to the site...

Becuase All Seeing Eye sucks ass now. Someone else beside Yahoo should by it off them and have someone update it like it was back in the days.

Regardless of ASE, I mean come on! Every game now has the auto-download feature. You join server, if it's not availible it'll give it to you or use redirecting, either way u get the missing files. Here its "tough luck!". Hell, it doesn't even tell you WHICH files ur missing, which is even worse.

autodl is broken. will be addressed in next point release.

fyi, if you're joining a server w/custom maps or a mod on it you have to have the exact same pk4's the server does. best bet is to look for an irc chan for the server or a url somewhere in the hostname.

edit: for q4max you should only have the latest q4max release in your q4max dir. anything else and you won't be able to join. join #quake4, #q4tdm, #q41v1 on ETG or #Q4MAX on quakenet to get help or find out what exactly you are missing to join these servers. some of these servers may still be using the dr4ch fps mappacks or TMP pack 01 as well as TMP 02.

Actually, you can keep the .5 release and .71 in the same folders, and for some servers you need to.

Doomer wrote a script for my server, when connecting and you don't have the file then it will re-direct you here so you can download what you need.

Pretty fucking sweet.

magi I believe it was needed both sets. They may have fixed it but it doesnt break anything having them in. It was pissing me off after the .71 release because I couldnt connect anymore because I was trying to use a fresh install of the mod, while they had left the .5 files on the server.

It's not a script, it's built in to the game. Admins just have to turn on URL re-direction.

The url re-direct was definately needed when q4max was put on the server
since alot fo the people that had played there before were connecting and
*beating the heads* wondering why they couldn't connect LOL!
