Geocomp4 "Quake3 lives" Contest Poll

Would you guys be interested in a new Q3 contest to prove that it still lives?

As I mentioned earlier, we imported LevelSource so it's content wouldn't go to waste. Now LevelSource is mostly known for it's cool contest and especially the very successfull Geocomp3 contest held there.

As a token of appreciation to Redfella for giving us his content we would like to hold a new Geocomp contest. Ofcourse all in style of the original ones. More info on that can be found here.

So who would be in for some hommage to good old Quake 3?

Possibly, what kind of time frame are we talking?

Why not another gameplay contest? :) I already have too many beautiful maps that are unplayable. :/

I'm in as long as the maximum(longerst) timelimit is set to around 5 hour/week x 8 weeks, say 40 hours.

How about setting up a definite mappack? I'd be more keen about having 1 huge download that gets the standard for people to have on the internet than having a couple of maps more that won't get played as just a few have them.

Timeframe is open for discussion but I figured 2 months should do it.

All the entries will be rounded up as one mappack and will be available on the site and mirrored elsewhere.

Regarding gameplay, I forgot to link to the original thread which I just edited in my post above. Here's a little quote:
This contest, just like its predessors, will be for Quake3 and will follow the same parameters\requirements of the originals. This means that this contest will be based primarily on map geometry (map architecture and level design). -While gameplay is important, it will not be the determining factor when voting time arrives. However, if you can make a map that follows in the tradition of this contest, AND has decent gameplay, then that will be looked upon favorably.
If you have more questions fire away!

Who needs nice looking geometry... you should change the phrase to "Quake 3 mapping lives" :[ Don't get me wrong, i'm a collector of these kind of maps, but they are of no use to the playing community. Map like guys like Bal, who make maps that don't only look, but play great too!

Says who?
The point of mapping isn't because you have to please a bunch of stuck up picmip boys who wanna play on a gameplay only map, it's because you think it's fun.

Besides, the Q3 community has long forgotten about the active mapping crew..

We can stress out that gameplay is an equal factor. I personnaly like maps that are visual appealing but play extremely good as well.

Furthermore I agree with Fjoggs. Not in those words btw :icon25:

Would you be in or out Oeloe?

Sorry if i gave you the wrong impression Fjoggs/Infernis. :) I'm not a picmip boy (picmip 0 and lightmap + r_intensity tweak and pmskins is enough) but i can imagine all those people who are make you care less. :D I'm not a mapper btw Infernis (began to teach myself a while ago but didn't have the time to continue it).

Perhaps it might be a nice idea to do a gameplay mapping contest at another time, with boundaries on the map size and the amount of textures. I'd like to see small CTF maps for 2v2 and 3v3, like q3ctf1 as there are only a few of them.

Hmmmm, ctf. That's the only gametype I would map for and release.

Don't worry about it Oeloe. I'm not that easily offended :p

Survivor: It's a Geocomp contest but that doesn't limit you to an FFA map, if you want to do a CTF map, I see no reasons why you couldn't.
