Q3 Custom Maps Server

Who would be interested in a Euro (probably UK) hosted Q3 server, for both custom map rotations and beta testing?
I think there's still a justifiable need for something like this. The biggest problems that are faced are the US/Euro divide (US players rarely want to tolerate Euro pings and vice versa), having highly active admins who will put any map on the server - any time, and getting a solid number of players on the server to make it worthwhile.
I'm not trying to set up a fund to rent such a server at this time. Instead, I'm persuing all the 'free' options, such as contacting the admins of existing servers which dont see much use.
What's the max number of maps you can have in an OSP server rotation? I'd love to see a custom rotation consisting of hundreds of our custom maps
EDIT: POLL ADDED
Vote for the server to be loaded with OSP or CPMA mod

In the meantime, i'm usually available to host a game at any custom map on my private server. I love checking out custom maps (got ~750 of them now probably) so if anyone wants a 1v1 (or more) at a certain map, pm me. I'll host CPMA or OSP on my Athlon64 3200+ 1 GB ram, 6/0.8 Mbit connection in The Netherlands. Should be ok for people in Western and Central Europe, Scandinavia etc.
I'm rather tired of pubs with their usual maps, so i hope some people are interested.
Edit: so people don't get the wrong idea: i don't own a rent server but i can just start up a win32 dedserver. At times i could leave it running when i'm off to work, but basically i would serve on-demand.

We need a proper server! Tired of 100 ping to europe
I could start the LEM server back on, gotta talk to my bro first though.

Could I get admin if this happens? I'm thinking the more people that are able to add maps physically to the server would be the most important aspect of making it a sucess.
I'm in talks with my ISP to get one hosted on their backbone network. They used to have one but it went down due to lack of use.

About the huge level loop. I'd not recomment that... for one ISDN folks like myself would have to download *huge* amounts of maps, and secondly none of the maps would get much testing as one in a hundred.
IMO, 10 maybe 20 maps should be the absolute maximum. And instead change the level loop e.g. on the first of every month.

Why should we have a max? You won't need to download them all anyway..

Maybe we should have a sticky thread here with the download links of current maps, thus everybody could dl the maps that are played on the server according to that list.

I could see enforcing a max due to the fact that it is annoying to have to disconnect and go find a DL of the map every time the server rotates maps. If there was a fixed size (say, 10 or 20) then it would be easier for people to maintain a list. Then every week you could shuffle in 5 new maps and pop off the 5 oldest maps.

Oh, we'r gonna have rotation, then I get it.

Well, we could work it like this:
A very high number of maps on the server, but a limited map rotation.
That way, people can pick out any individual level they want to play, but when they vacate the rotation slips back into familiar maps.
I think OSP will allow this kind of rotation behavior, and it would seem the best of both worlds.
If we shifted the rotation from time to time, it would be easily feasible to host all the maps in a rotation on my webspace, and initially provide a torrent for a complete rotation to give people the chance to snag them all at high speed.

OSP for less whining about config differences, CPMA (VQ3 mode) for much better US<>Euro playability. Also CPMA for testing of actual cpm maps (like Sumatra's and Munyul's latest alpha/beta).

CPMA! I would love to give it a go around even if it was at higher ping. :icon32:

Alright, my bro's back in his own town, so I'll speak to him today. I bet the servers will be up today aswell, so I'll send you the info you need Foo.

Oh and CPMA is the best choice of mod, because it handles pretty much anything alot better then OSP. Adding new maps to a server, netcode, different gametypes.

The downside is that you can't set it to standard Q3 settings, and it requires a hefty client download.
If admins have 'full' access to it then it can be switched?

And I thought that CPMA was shipped within OSP O_o

What? You can set it to vQ3..
But we should have a vote, OSP or CPMA.

Alright sir, I'll set one up.
Edit: done. Lets let it run for 24h and see where we stand by this time tomorrow.
I'm easy on which one we use, but I'm concerned about how accessible/appealing the server will be to the 'average' player if it's loaded with CPMA.
The main purpose of the server is to promote custom levels, past and present, and to facilitate beta testing of new ones. If you're looking at it from a different perspective than me I appreciate that, but if so we are at cross purposes.

Well, technically in CPMA you can turn OFF the promode movement, which essentially gives you OSP (though not all the way).
And as much as I'm a big fan of CPMA, I'm going to have to vote OSP on this one. Custom maps should probably be tested by a vQ4 movement server by default. Otherwise we end up trying to turn every odd map into a CPMA map, which doesn't work.
EDIT: lol, I typed vQ4 when I meant vQ3.
