I think the point is to develop the skills to know how to solve the puzzle in any given situation. Contestants brought their own cubes to the competition, and a computer program was used to scramble the cubes in the same fashion for each round to give the contestants equal footing.

They said they used a computer to set each cube to the same start point so each person had an equal amount of work to do.

I remember years ago, when I first solved it, took months :icon26: and probably got there by accident I actually took photos, backed it against a mirror for proof that I did do it (film in those days too) :icon28:
