Network File sharing permissions question

How do I set up a shared folder with a drop box, such that the contents in the shared directory cannot be written to, except for one folder in the shared directory? Whenever I set permissions for the parent folder, all subdirectories inherit those permissions and there seems to be no way to set exceptions.
