So we just got cable installed yesterday and the guy came out today to increase our signal strength and we get a steady 8.5mbps connection - sweet.

However, through my Wifi-G setup with a 100% signal I get a scorching 3mbps... :icon27:

If someone can explain my sucky speed to me that would be fantastic. I was under the assumption the WEP protection was causing a drop in speed but it seems no faster unsecured - suckage. I'm reading a 54g connection has a throughput of around 18mbits/sec, what the heck!

I just got the router earlier tonight - a Belkin 54g.

i hate to tell you this, and i'm not joking - my friend also bought a belkin 54g last week and had the exact same problem. couldn't figure out the slow speeds, so upon recommendation from me, he picked up a Linksys WRT54G.

bam, insta-speed.

Alrighty I took it back yesterday and decided to just wire up my computer to the router in the other room (a Microsoft MN-500). It actually worked out well I ran it under the carpet and stuff - and poked my finger on a carpet tack :<

Wow I had this window minimized in my taskbar for hours and didn't even notice.

Yeah Foo it's going as fast as it should now. Only wireless enabled is 2mb stream for our DS's, heavily secured
