Quake III Arena and Gold Compatibility

Hey everyone, I just ran a quick search and didn't hit any results, so I thought I might ask the professionals here. I've never been much of a Quake fanatic, but have been known to play a few rounds here and there. A friend of mine recently showed me a video he made using the defrag mode, and needless to say, I was astounded. I am on a Mac, and as far as I can tell from searching, Quake III: Gold is compatible with Mac. Now, if I purchased Quake III: Gold, would I be able to use the defrag mode and join my friends servers (who is running Arena)? Thanks guys.

And it will still run defrag?

Yes. Q3A mods are cross-platform (generic bytecode that gets JIT-compiled).

Thanks a ton guys. I just saw a video in this forum and man...I was amazed. I think I may be sticking around for a bit.
[edit - I also just found the Quake III: Arena for Mac, so I guess I will just get that instead, as long as it works.]

Hey guys, incredibly sorry to bump this up, but it would be even worse of me to create a new topic. I really can't seem to find anywhere to purchase Quake III Gold. I mean, there is always ebay, but I really want to buy one somewhere else. Does anyone know a store that usually has them?

Well, i actually have a 2nd copy of Q3 that i don't really need, so i might sell it. Where do you live? Btw, Q3 Gold is called Gold because it includes Team Arena, which has some additional game modes and maps, weapons and models, which is nice to have but not really that valuable (hardly anyone plays it online afaik).
