No icons on desktop

I have done something and there are no icons on the desktop. When I click start, and right click on My Computer and select send to desktop, it disappears and does not show on the desktop.

that's because you unchecked show icons on desktop

Right click on Desktop>Arrange Icons By>Show Desktop Icons
