Quake3World

I've played Quake in a while now, thinking about getting Quake 4... and I was wondering so few people Quake 4? I played a little bit of the single player campaign on my friends computer and it seemed pretty cool. What's wrong with it that so many people won't touch. According to Gamespy stats more people play Q3 than Q4.

To hardware intensive for most ppl.
To few maps vs Q3/UT04
Buggy shitty sound.
Crap netcode vs Q3 premier mods.
Autodownload Broken + if your missing files on a server you cannot connect.
Competition in the form of WoW, Q3/2/1, UT04/UT, CS/S
Not different enough to break away from its flaws. Though I find I really miss crouch sliding and ramp jumping when I go back to Q3.

Probably sums it up. If you do want to play and your in NA q4max + cpl maps + quakemas pack are all musts imo to get on the majority of servers.

get it for the SP game, thats just a total blast. I'm playing it through a second time and I think its better than when I played it the first time.

jesters right about the MP flaws though. We can hope that a patch will make it more player freindly. Although if you like 1v1 or small FFA games its still pretty fun.

SP is well worth the game's purchase.
MP will get better one day. Just like Q3 was in the beginning.

Speaking for me, myself and I. If you have been playing Q3 for the last 4+ (?) years, you come to Q4 with expectations that haven't been met. I've described Q4 as playing Q3 with 25 pound ankle weights. The physics are, in very subtle ways, different. I'm running a P4, 2.4 with a gig of RAM and a GeForce 6600GT (128mb) card. I conisder myself an average player and can hold my own in Q3 - I have good days and bad days.

All my Q4 outings are bad days. I get creamed. I can't get off the floor (spawn) without getting wasted. This happens on Q3 map remakes as well as new maps.

I think this game has legs and the MP play will eventually be fun as the patches come out and we upgrade our machines. And of course - we practice, practice, practice.

How much did you actually play it? I played some tourneys one night and i was astonished about the camping and spamming. Most shots seemed to be made while my opponent was standing still waiting to get a clean shot at me (lost fleet). This passive-agressive bullshit didn't attract me at all. When i played some tourneys on an XB server later though, i got owned pretty hard at first, but after some games i was starting to take over. Once you get the feel of the game, playing agressively pays off because they're not used to that kind of opposition. I even pummeled the guy twice. (Got owned hard on phrantic again though. :x)
