Windows XP home SP2.
A freinds computer is somewhat screwed and systen restore is turned off. Can I reset the registry to an earlier point without systen restore.

You could if your friend had used regedit and exported the entire tree, but I doubt he did that?
If he decides to backup the registry in the future, I'd recommend using erunt for that

Also google for how to reset xp's "registry hive". the hive is a backup of xp's registry that was made when windows was first installed. it should be possible to reset xp back to the hive so it acts like a fresh install of xp.
