Flashlight and Shadows

I noticed in Quake 4 the flashlight doesn't cause objects to cast shadows as it did in Doom 3. Is this normal or do I need to change some settings?

It does some times. I thought there was a fix or something...

Flashlight shadows are cast in Ultra Mode only, add the following to your config:
seta com_machineSpec "3"

Is ultra mode meant to be ran with 512mb vram or was that only for Doom 3?

Just try to set it to ultra in Q4. It will warn you that you need 512 MB.

Interesting. I'm getting 60 fps constant in SP ultra and I only have 256mb VRAM. I wonder if it's because I have 2 gigs system RAM.
