Can not connect on local LAN

I have an SBC connection that came with a 2WIRE router. This worked beofer I had this router, when I just had a Linksys but now it does not work. I know what you are thinking, "It must be the 2WIRE" but I have called SBC tech support and we have opened up the router to communicate will all progrmas hosted on the house main computer.
So, I start the game on the main computer, create a game for LAN play. Go to the other computer (Wireless) and try to join the game. It never connect to the game, it just says waiting and just keeps counting.
Also I get "Mis-typed cd key?" i tried the solution at http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16858 but that did not work either. If I create the game from the remote home computer and try to join with the main home computer I do not get the CD-mistye error but it will not connect to the game either. I am a bout to give up and assume I will never be able to play over a LAN again in my home unless someone here can help.
I know there are a lot of 2WIRE rounters out there so I can only hope that I get a fix in here.
Thanks to all for taking the time.
