an idea, would this be possible?

I have two computers and each computer is plugged onto its own stereo. The computers are networked. Would it be possible to somehow play a music file on both computers at exactly the same time (not start it on one and then start it on the other one) in winamp?

maybe if the file is from a streaming server--such as shoutcast, for example.

Thats true, but what about a file thats stored on my computer? Or maybe I could create a shoutcast for my local network... is it hard to do? How do I do it?

It would probably be better to find a solution using an FM transmitter.

That is not an option.

it's easier to do with a linux server, but here's the XP how-to

also, you'd want to force client sync in the settings. Any network latency will create buffer-echo between the two pc's--shouldn't really be an issue on a lan, though.

IIRC there's a winamp plugin that lets you do that, but of course they'd either have to both have the same track on their own hard drive, or one of them playing from its own hard drive, and the other playing via a windows share. Lemme dig it up.

Do you know if I can set it up on a LAN without having to go through the internet?

nm, I just connected to through the subnet using the IP assigned by the router and then even when i didnt have access to the net it still worked w00t. Btw, I found how to make it private \o/

thanks a lot man!

the issue has already been solved the proper way. just an FYI, the two computers are about 20 meters away from each other.

where is the "force client sync" option?

it's a buffer setting but try adjusting the winamp buffers on the clients first. i can't tell you how long it's been since I've played with it and don't want to steer you wrong with bad directions. Definately tweak the bitrate higher, maybe 128k +

I've set the bitrate to 320kbps.

:olo: so the issue was not "solved the proper way"?
short of bumping the buffers in winamp, i've got nothing left of my notes on this stuff and memory is nothing but a memory for me.
google a bit on "burst-on-connect" and "syncing shoutcast clients" and if anything comes to me in the morning, i'll pop back in with some more details.

I did say that your way is the proper way. I wanted to keep everything on the software level without having to buy any wires or anything.

I just have to laugh at your shortness with riddla... don't get pissy, Moody Bug--is it still out of sync?

Well I just thought of this, I wish I had though of it sooner, but I didn't. Perhaps using Google Talk would work. I'm sure you have two google accounts, or can get two. If you set your microphone to your audio device then it would stream it through a call. The only thing is you might get some lag, I don't know, but I would think it is worth a try. I know this is late, but I'm hoping it is useful to someone.
