Video problems on COD 2

I just bought COD 2 for the PC, there's no real issues with game performace, it's just that the opening sequence and any in-game videos don't play, I just get a black screen but I can hear everything, although like I say the game itself runs very well. also when I die I get a set of strange multi-coloured lines go across the screen (I'll get a pic of this soon and post it here, just don't have time now as I gotta go to work).
Any ideas?
