Anyone have any experience with MythTV? I'm looking over the features and it seems to be hands down the best home entertainment system anyone could hope for.

Problem is... I'm not a Linux user and I'm making my first forays into that whole can of worms at the moment... I'd like to see if anyone else out there has actually used MythTV and what their thoughts are on it.

I used to use it years ago when it was still developing. I had a Hauppauge TV card and got linux up and running. MythTV worked ok with it, but was nothing special. The computer was a POS as well, so I couldnt do any of the fancy multimedia features.

There are other such programs for Windows as well. I'm waiting for cable card support though before I switch over from my cable box, otherwise you don't get HBO etc.

Let us know how it goes, Fooker. Looks like the right choice. Burn recordings to DVD is teh win.

Yeah I'm hoping so.

I'm using PowerCinema at the moment and it's a POS. Good looks, but very buggy. Will do stuff like:
- If you've been watching a channel for more than 30 mins and you switch between fullscreen + window modes, it skips back to the start of the cache I.E. half an hour ago

- The program guide has gradually lost channels. I'm down to 6 from 40.

Be sure to check to see that all of your hardware is compatible with MythTV BEFORE you go about installing Linux, MythTV, channel lineup, etc. I made the mistake of going to all that work and got it up and running... but had no support for my remote control. Argh!

So, I reinstalled XP and bought a license for Snapstream's BeyondTV. It's a very simple installer and can be done in less than 15 minutes. I've not had a problem with it once since I've been using it almost a year ago.
