Favourite q3 movie?

Excluding AnnihilatioN, Tribulation and The art of Straffle (we all know this would win).

Slightly random thread inspired by boredom, yes, you may pimp your own stuff. It can be a trick or frag video, preferably frag. You don't have to post anything but a link but a short explanation would be nice.

Go. :D

Get Quaked (1). Very few movies after that came close to that quality. There are lots of movies that show frags in like 2-3 seconds or less, which makes it very repetitive and doesn't give you an opportunity to be impressed by the frag because you're already watching the next one. In GQ that's just right.
It's also one of the first Q3 movies i saw so not much can really top that experience. I only enjoy watching good promode movies more. :)

The only other movie that i really rate highly is The Badge 2, because of the outstanding way the author made added kind of custom hud to indicate the way an advanced Quaker analyzes every situation in real-time. The frags are extremely nice too. The Badge 3 has some awesome frags too mainly on pro-q3t4, but was a bit boring to watch though.

@dan: he said you may pimp your own stuff. :)

@ Oeloe: Thanks, downloading Get Quaked and Badge 2 now, I think I've seen The Badge 3 a while back, sounds familiar, can't remember though.

@ Dan: Well I've seen AnnihilatioN, Tribulation and The art of Straffle many times in the past and the whole intention of this thread was finding some new stuff to entertain me. :)

Edit: Hahaha, I was searching for The Badge 2 on own-age, and look what I found:

Added links to my post for downloads at PQ3.net. I recommend searching there before you look at own-age because the pq3.net mirrors will usually fill up your downstream bandwidth. :)

Just finished watching The Badge 2, and GQ is 75% done but thanks for the links anyway. ;)

The Badge 2: Liked it, I also liked the way it'd been edited, though it was shorter than I was expecting.

Edit: Get Quaked: Loved it, very, very nice editing coupled with some great mid-air rockets and grens. Very nicely done.

Anymore for meh? :D

The badge series is ruined by the fact that they're using hacks.

@ Riddla: I'm on it. :ninja:

@ Foo: I did hear something about the frags being set up while on my searches. I still found the editing in 2 clever though.

Do you know that to be a fact, or did you just read about it (at ESR)? Some of the comments on own-age say that a part of the frags were staged, which is probably true (opponent doesn't shoot back much). Regarding the use of an aimbot: the only frags that look kind of suspicious to me are the plasma juggling frags. If you look at the PG air juggle at 2:14, he hits all shots except the last plasma bolt. Hard to tell if it's a bot. The juggle at 4:30 looks more genuinely aimed because he misses more. All in all i think that these movies are an exposition of pure skill for the most part and, like mentioned by own-age himself, they succeed in entertaining the viewer. Not ruined by hacks imho.

Depends what you get from the videos. Pure visual entertainment or awe of skillful displays. I guess they could still be the first.

Totally crazy RA3 and CTF ownage by v1ncent vega, mainly at Overkill and ctf4: So Fuckin' Yeah! (best RA3 movie ever)

Bullshit Expedition 1 (and 2) by Robok1ll is fun. All the 3x airrox are satisfying to watch. :) Forever 2 is a nice work of art.

Other must-see's: unownable, unownable 2, q3fuel, q3fuel2.

Quake3 Movies!!!!

There are soo many movies that have their good and bad.

Soo hard to say which is my favorite.

I do remember the The Quake3World Movie Source - section F

[-] FragFX_by_S3NS30FD34TH_(DivX501_MQ)

The above was a memorable video in my mind.

Although there are more out there for their entertaining and visual
effects!

[-] The Quake3World Movie Source - section O

The guys over @ OverDrivePC were showing us some EXCELLENT
movie editing and tricking. Ayn of the OPC Promo videos are well worth
looking at.

[-] OPC_Promo_1

[-] OPC_Promo_2

[-] OPC_Promo_3

[-] OPC_Promo_4

*note* Looks like all the planetquake3.net links are all good in my
list but the own-age links need to be adjusted. I can't do that since I don't have access to the PieceMaker-InC- account at this time.

So if anyone decides to look through the movie listing? Please be advised about the links and view how long ago it was that any post was edited. ;)

There are quite a few more movies that I enjoyed but that would
be too many. Hope I didn't ramble on too much.

Freeform
Reaching Aural Nirvana

Get Quaked 3
CPMA Done (vo0)

I did see it almost 2 years after it's release, but i just didn't enjoy the presentation of the frags very much. Get Quaked was released just a couple of months later but impressed me much, much more. I can appreciate some relatively 'low budget' movies like 2ex the movie 3 more than Annihilation.

I'd say the 2 years after pretty much kills it. The frags were quite awesome for it's time, and the synching was groundbreaking compared to movies released at the same time.
Get Quaked stole a bit here and there from Annihilation aswell, so, I dunno. :p

Annihilation (and perhaps a few other movies, but Annihilation did have the most impact) is a milestone, it changed how people thought of movies and it changed how movie makers approached editing a movie, because here it's all connected: footage, using the camera, synching, and editing. It all serves one purpose: pulling you into the movie for an enjoyable watch.

Maybe it doesn't stand out as much anymore when comparing to newer movies (though I still love it) but it meant a lot for game movie making in general. It changed how editors would approach their next movie (shortly after Annihilation, if a movie didn't have enough synching it would get lower feedback).
Just reading some comments on that movie is fun and shows what it meant :)

To those of you who haven't watched the movie, Get Quaked 3

Easily, the best frag video ever made. I'll even go as far as to say it's the best media file on the internet.

I absolutely love the scene where Bun runs into the flag room with the Quad Damage, dodges a rocket, jumps over another, and gaunts the flag carrier right ontop of the flag. Jesus. And that entire segmant is totally bad-assed.

Man, I love that movie.

Imho Joka and TheCamel just did a job (with Get Quaked 1) far better than own-age was able to do. There's 5 months between the movies so i wouldn't call GQ one of the 'newer' movies.

The first 1/3rd of Annihilation kind of spoils the movie too imho. Just a bit boring compared to the remaining part (in which the editing is worse though, with the annoying big frame :p).

Imho the motion blur in GQ3 is way too much. The movie would have been better without it. The footage isn't really better than Get Quaked 1 either except for a few nice frags perhaps. Anyway, enough words have been wasted on this at own-age about the overhyped-ness of this movie. :icon26:

Like spookminer said, Annihilation completely changed the way a moviemaker creates content. Effective cam uses that highlights the frag and not the camming tool, synching that _adds_ to the level of the frag, not ruining it with distraction. Content wise it's better then Get Quaked.

I guess each to his own eh? :)

Oh and saying the content in GQ3 isn't really better than GQ1 is laffable tbh. GQ3 contentwise totally mops everything seen before.

Nonsense. They're just presented in a pretty way. Lots of those airrox (i've just seen too many from Robok1ll :p) on Overkill and other maps have been seen many times before. The long distance air nade was nice though.
