Converting BSP to MAP

Is there any way to load a BSP into radiant, or convert a BSP to a MAP? It would be really useful for examining techniques that experienced mappers use. I tried using q3map2 with the -convert -format flags discusses here

on q3dm1, but I am left with a 1k file. Any ideas?

You need one of the recent versions of Q3Map2 (ie. 2.5.16)
When decompiling a map, some information is always always lost from the MAP file as it was originally converted to BSP. So download GtkRadiant, since it contains the original q3dm1 map file along with a few others.
Keep in mind, though... Id was pretty sloppy with their mapping back then, especially since it was "new" technology they were working with and they were on tight deadlines (for example, their use of hints was completely wrong and inefficient).
