I'm having a pretty odd problem.

I've been running custom maps ever since the 1.1 beta patch was released and download redirect started working. No problems throughout this process.

Since I knew the 1.1 official patch was about to be released, I decided to remove all the custom maps that don't have the addon.conf file so that users wouldn't be forced to download EVERYTHING at first connection (I was getting close to 30 maps and 100 megs!).

This is where the problems began. If I do this, when it gets to the custom maps (id maps are fine, even the new ones), server disconnects at the end of the custom map and have to do a reconnect to get back on the server, it then downloads the file like it's supposed to and lets me in. It does this on EVERY custom map that has the addon.conf in it.

I'm attaching a link to the Server Config file (Minus non important/personal data) as well as the screenshot of what happens when it goes to the next map via console.

If anyone can help me resolve this problem it would be GREATLY appreciated. I've had to go to default maps until this gets resolved and it's KILLING me.

I think thats a problem with q4, not your server.

I don't understand. How can that be the way it works? I mean I get DISCONNECTED. As in I have to reconnect after every map? That makes no sense. That's like telling me I SHOULD NOT use the addon.conf and just have everyone download the maps at once. Which btw works fine with NO disconnects.

I agree. I'd rather download ALL the servers maps before I connect.

For the mappers who didn't do a proper addon.conf, their maps will all autodl when the user connects. Then the user will be kicked when the server rotates to a map that has a proper addon.conf. Makes me want to release pk4s without addon.conf...

/wanders off grumbling about half-baked ideas...

Does anyone have a vanilla q4 server running custom maps WITH addon.conf's that works? I'd like to check it out.

then other stock maps in rotation..

When you say "WORKS" tho, what do you mean. It behaves as you described.

You'll dl pjw4dm1 before it lets you connect. Then when q4hexdm1r is rotated in, it'll kick you out, you reconnect for autodl.

In my tests, it tries to reconnect 15 times thne bails? I have to reconnect MANUALLY. It happens to all user on our server too. I'm going to check yours out.

When I connect, it tries to download the file then I get a "Couldn't connect to host" error message saying it couldn't connect to that FTP site you're pointing too.

Hrm. That ftp server was being hammered earlier, maybe is cleared up in a little while...

I saw the same problem once earlier, upon retry it went OK.

So, I finally got connected to your server. When I tried to change the map to "Floating Death" which is q4hexdm1r to test it, it said that map didn't exist on server. Are you SURE it's in the rotation? The reason I ask is that when I connected, I downloaded a couple of files as if they didn't have the addon.conf (Because I had to download them all at once).

erk. Thanks for finding this. I had left a bad path in the q4hexdm1r addon.conf from when I was testing stuff. Its fixed and reuploaded now. Sorry for the hassle.

edit: you should delete the q4hexdm1r that autodlded for you earlier... It may let you vote it even though you don't have the updated pk4... bad things are sure to happen then..

I gave up and just went to Q4Max which resolves my problem and I like it better than vanilla Q4 anyway.

Now that the Mods Redirect just fine as well, I see no need with not going to mods now.
