I, myself have been liking it alot. Conversations are alot more funny and it's easier to say commands for teamplay games.

Real men have always used ts or vent. Or roger wilco, but it's not popular.

I've never actually used it, but I listened at one point and was pretty surprised at how clear it was.

afaik you can mute them by pressing tab for scoreboard (or escape, i forget which - the one that shows full board plus stats iirc) then select the offender and mute
never seen voicechat used in anything other than ffa - does it have 2 sepearte channels for each team then, when its team based ?? In ffa it more or less largely amounts to a new way to spam

Note that these are not related to the Q4 "live talking" voicechat, they simply allow you to play a pre-recorded sound (defined by a soundshader).
To answer the original question, yes, the voicechat will only go to teammates in a teamgame.

I have thought about letting my kid play q4 with me, he's 6. He can handle the mouse and all pretty well, he's been ON the computer, so to speak, all his life, but I don't think I want to expose my kid to "GIBS" just yet. I don't think he's old enough to understand exploding people.
The voice chat is pretty cool.
