fuck i've been putting it off for years. theres been times i've got turned around in the bush hunting and became lost for an hour or two. kinda scary yeah. also hoping to map out the golf course and use it as a caddy.

I could see how that could be very useful. I don't see a price. I may be interested in something like that as I'm usually out in the middle of fucking nowhere and my work phone rarely has a signal and I sometimes get turned around with bad directions.

They've been talking about installing GPS into the work trucks and rigs but no sign of that happening yet.

I think that GPS is one of the coolest inventions of the modern age. I was thinking about making an R/C blimp with GPS-based path following capability for my senior project.

could have went with the color screen, mp3 but i already went a little over what i originally wanted to spend.

if youre not into features you can get a basic one for less than a $100.

That sounds like a cool idea. Would be nice to see how accurately you could track it.

you can get <10 feet with WAAS(Wide Area Augmentation System) wich is included on any modern gps.

I got my iQue M5 a while ago, I figured I would get bored and stop using it after a while but nope... I drag it everywhere. Traffice I press detour and I'm off down side roads, or if I am bored with my current route I use it to take me a different way.

I no longer fear going to new areas and getting lost. Ye the GPS is the coolest invention ever...

I als use it for recreational use since the M% has windows 2003 Mobile if I'm stuck somewhere I eather play a game or watch a movie on it as well.

i was thinking about going the pocketpc+gps route but battery life, ruggedness is crucial.

Just bought myself a Garmin GPSMap60CS a few weeks ago, and its a fun thing to mess around with. I go geocaching every now and then, and its great.

I might have a new job and will probably buy one. Would like one that's geared towards the Canadian market first and that updates frequently for new roads, etc.

Probably would like to get a handheld, sd card expandable, and plotting capabilities.

it all depends on the $$ you want to spend. i just went a step up from the basic. if i seem to use it alot and want some more features i can always sell it and move up to a better one.

for lowrance you can buy mapcreate6.3 topo canada version+sd card writer+16mb sd card for $100.

you need the mfrs card writer though you can't just use any usb memory card reader/writer.

the psp will soon have a gps addon, much cheaper than buying a gps by itself. the gps addon and an eyetoy and ps1 emulator in the 3.0 firmware update,a lso flashplayer.

what kind of gps features do you think the psp
will have? there is a big difference in what a $100vs$500 gps can do.

plus the gps reciever add-on will be at least $100. the psp can't just recieve gps signals out of the box regardless of firmware.

If I get this job, then it might be a gps/pda combo.
Just thinking a handheld gps is more geared towards what it's meant for, rather than a gps/pda version.
I'd probably spend around $400.

it will not just be a map but will add stuff onto games as well making them mroe interactive.

Well I do have a PDA (HP iPAQ rz1710). Even if it will displays maps and plots a route from one place to another probably would be good.
