Man this game kicks the shit out of Pursuit Force (the last PSP game I played). Graphics are really quite good for a PSP game - I think this is the first 'must play' PSP game in some time.
It's my distraction from Oblivion.

"Spanish site Finalboss recently sat down for an interview session with Ready at Dawn Studios, makers of the excellent PSP platformer Daxter. They discussed a wide range of detailed topics including the technical challenges of working with the PSP, especially compared to the PS2, Daxter's magnificent game engine, the experience of working with Naughty Dog, company philosophies and future projects. It's a highly interesting read and the team seems like they're focused and really have got the right idea about how to approach working on a PSP game. It's also comforting to know that the studios next title will most likely be another PSP game. Personally I can't wait! Here are some snippets from the interview:
One thing that most people notice about Daxter on the PSP is that it's probably one of the best-looking games out there right now. That was something we really set out to do from the beginning -– to push the technology, we spent a lot of time on the engine for that, to get to really show that even though the PSP is a handheld, we never saw it and don't want to see it as a subset of a home console; something where you have to make compromises to get a game from a home console onto the handheld. So we never really thought about it as a limitation, we approached it the same way we would approach any kind of project on a regular home console.
It's really the first time people are going to see what the PSP is capable of doing in terms of graphics, it goes to show them it's no sub-PS2, it's just a great platform where we can do games just as good as any home console. Certain locations in the game, like the city streets which acts kind of a hub from level to level, are actually taken from the PS2 games, the same geometry as the locations in Jak II. But in this particular case we managed to even increase the texture resolution compared to the PS2 version... so it doesn't only look as good, but actually better, which has been impressive.
This game kinda shows that you can do things that look as good as PS2, if not better. I think we're moving forward a lot more games you know that are at that level of graphic quality.
This is what we can do with 233 Megahertz (laughs) Can you imagine what we could at full spec? Going to the full speed wouldn’t be you know only 33 per cent speed up, it's actually a lot more, because the PSP has a single bus and the speed of each memory is accessed... the boost that it gets is tremendous, but... Eventually, when the battery technology catches up,then it will be possible... I think that as it is, the platform is perfectly capable of doing full size, non-compromised 3D games."

Daxter looks good aye. But whats the frame rate like? I would rather play with 10 polygon people and 16x16 res textures as long as the games smooth i.e. unlike 99% of the PSP games to date
Ill try Daxter when it comes in for sure, but damn, i just hope its smooth. My PSP has more dust on it than Dust Puppy...

Handheld and and console development is a different story alltogether. I'm getting fed up with these devs that make the same tripe scaled down for the PSP which clearly wont work on a handheld, yet they do it anyways because they think it will bring in the big bucks.
Look at the DS. It knows what it is. Itsa low poler portable gaming unit. So what do they do? Well for the most part, the devs make low power, fun games that you can share with your friends and have a laugh with. Lets face it, you can be upside down on a bus and STILL be able to play nintendogs or animal crossing. They just work.
Now lets look at the PSP. You have Prince of Persia, a good game, a good looking game i might add. But its NOT a handheld game. Its a game you sit infront of the TV and play for a few hours with. Its not something you can pick up and play fora few mins then leave really. Half those few mins are loading the bloody thing.
IMHO Sony really missed what a hand held should be. Saying its a PS2 in your pocket is the EXACT wrong thing they should be doing. Handheld games should be fun, should be quick, and should be playable whether your playing them for 10seconds, 10mins or 10 hours. Pick a random DS game and i could have it loaded in a few seconds and be playing the game. Pick a random PSP game and id still be waiting
I'm all for the graphical improvements on the handhelds, sure the PSP has it, but its only running at 222. If you unlokc the 333, games like GTA 3 suddenly become "fun" to play because the frame rate doubles and you think "now i can stand this a bit more". But then you suddenly see that already poor battery life go even quicker.
Im all for the PSP as long as they bring out more decent games, thus i'm keeping my eyes on Syphon Filter and Daxter. As long as both games are fun and have good frame rates (SP looks to be quite smooth), then ill buy them and AT LAST add a few more games to my collection. But at the momemnt, my PSP still sits gathering dust with probably an empty battery anyway...

I've been playing a little bit of syphon filter, and I gotta say it's a fucking amazing game. It feels just like a good ps2 game and it blows a ton of console games away. The controls seem a bit overwhelming at first but I got used to it (strafing with buttons, aiming with analog stick). Awesome visuals, great story (has a few funny moments) and a ton of achievement rankings and a few unlockable missions. No wonder it got like 9.5 from ign... now why can't more psp games bee this good? :<

I started oblivion again the other week on 360 to get the points this time.
With everything i knew from before, i found myself leveling up a lot faster and playing a lot better. I'm now at level 22 with the thiefs guild and dark brotherhood guild complete, ive yet to start the fighters and mages guild, haven't done to much of the arena and haven't even started the SP.
Its still good
