Trent is ok... early stuff is pretty much essential, but With Teeth was disappointing on many levels. The production is still tight, but I can't help but sense hes running out of ideas.

NIN early stuff just doesn't stand the test of time.

Well, to be completely honest, it sounds like someone shat on a microphone.

The middle works are worth the time. Peaks with downward spiral I think.

The best NIN songs are on the EP's. Broken, Fixed, etc.

Broken has my 2 fav NIN songs on it, Gave Up, and Suck. The live album also kicks ass, grab that if you get the chance.

I think he concentrated too much on the whole 5.1 thing on With Teeth; it's just not got the power of his other stuff, and a lot of it stinks like it was written with the more commercial market in mind.

Whilst I'll agree that The Downward Spiral is his opus work, The Fragile has really grown on me over time. "We're in this together" and "Starfuckers Inc." are absolute classics.

One of his best tracks that didn't get much exposure is "Burn" from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack.

The B-sides and covers are pretty damn cool too, specifically "Get Down, Make Love" on the Sin single and "Memorobilia" on Closer.

He just shoulda done the Doom 3 soundtrack instead of concentrating on With Teeth :(

I think I've got nearlly all of the "halos" from 1 through whatever the remastered Downward Spiral is. I've been a fan since '91 or so and been lucky enough to see them in concert a couple of times, for the Downward Spiral and Fragile tours. I got kicked in the head in the pit at the Downward Spiral show and lost a contact. That kinda sucked, I watched the rest of the show from the back of the pit with one eye closed.

Pretty Hate Machine was my favorite album but With Teeth is pretty good IMO.

Broken, The Downward Spiral and The Fragile are the definitive NIN albums. I can't pick a favorite out of the three, it's all amazing stuff.

Within the last year I saw them 3 times (twice in NYC and once in Rochester), and will see them again in June.

During the Rochester show I got to sing into Trent's mic during 'Piggy' when he jumped into the crowd; I had my arm around him the whole time too, it was great. Somebody shot a video bootleg of that and even though you can't make out what's going on, you can totally hear my out of key voice. :p After the show I got to meet the rest of the band, and they all signed my NIN tour book. I have some pics somewhere of that.

Did I mention I'm a huge NIN fan?

If anyone has not got it, i recommend:

And All That Could Have Been cd2
Its mostly Trent and his piano. The song "something i can never" have is one of THE most haunting songs i have heard in a long long time. Its fantastic

Actually, I should correct myself. Great 1 man band since Trent is pretty much the mastermind behind it all.

He's been one of my idols for a long time.

"Right Where It Belongs"

See the animal in his cage that you built
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it's all
Right where it belongs

[Chorus:]
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks?
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?

What if all the world's inside of your head
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you're really all alone?
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the woods
While you're hiding in the trees

[Chorus:]
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?
I love that song...played it at our wedding.

I don't think anything they've done since, is as good as Downward Spiral. Fragile has some really, really good songs on it, but like... every song on DS is great. I find myself skipping about half of Fragile when I hear it in my car. It's just... full of so much "filler" content that doesn't really say anything; unnecessary instrumentals and the like.

With Teeth is OK. Has a few good moments.

The new one is pretty good, I guess. I don't know, nothing from NIN touches DS. Probably never will.

Nerd band. Never really understood the fuss about them.
