Maps not showing up in maplist

The title says it. I have a truckload of maps for Q3A but not all of them show up in the maplist. I made sure all of the .pk3 files have a ".arena" file with the necessary information, however I still have to load most of the maps from the console which is annoying. Also, many of the maps show up in the maplist but the levelshots show up as the Q3 symbol and the map wont load when I press start. So, if anyone could tell me how to get all the maps in the maplist, that would be great. Or at least tell me why they aren't showing up. Help is much appreciated. Oh, one other thing. I DID look in the faq and a lot of the forums, but to no avail. So don't flame me for not trying myself. :q3:

there's a low limit on how many maps will show up. To get the hidden ones to appear, you need to move some of the other ones out of the folder.

Presumably this bug will be fixed with one of the new open source quake released, but I'm not sure that help you much.

Holy crap! That was the fastest reply I have ever seen! Anyway, that doesn't help much, but thanks for the reply. :q3:

I wonder if it would be possible to make a simple mod that merely changes the maplist and nothing else. e.g. CPMA's maplist can hold an infinite number of maps. So would it be possible to take that sort of maplist and just slap it in vanilla Q3? :q3:
sorry for the double post.

Ive seen a mod that does that, no clue what was called though. just play osp or cpma with vq3 settings.

I think OSP fixes it, and a mod called 'UI Arena'.

However if you patch the default game, you might have difficulties playing online.

UI Enhanced from here might also help.
